The war within-a poem

Updated on August 21, 2011

In peaceful times we flow

Like a river unperturbed

In times of war within

The mind becomes disturbed

Like soldiers we rise to fight

For the peace we know exists

We fight the battle with valour

But the war within persists.

It isn’t until we let go

Of our desire to win the war

A truce will then arise

And peace will come to the fore

Yes indeed that works too. Pure endurance certainly can win the battle at times.

As an aside. I have been away from hubpages for a while and tried that feature out.I'm still finding where they put everything as its all changed haha. I forgot how I grouped them but now I am discovering through your comments which ones are in there. Glad you are following the links and appreciate the time you are taking to read them and give useful feedback!

I am here from "Prisoners of the Mind". I love your poems. I must say, there are times when the battle is won by pure endurance.

That's a beautiful poem with a great message.

Many of our battles are those with ourselves - our minds. When are minds are in a state of turmoil, there is a struggle within and sometimes it's better to surrender than to keep on fighting ourselves. The question is when to stop. Finding inner peace isn't easy and one of the hardest things for man to do is to control his own mind. If he can learn to use his mind and control it well then we wouldn't have so many internal and external conflicts!

Cheers for sharing this wonderful poem and God bless and peace to you!

Beautiful Penny. It is that conflict, that keeps us writers writing! From the wrestling within that it takes to call that truce is where some of our best work comes, I think. Your poetry says so much in so few words, its truly a wonderful gift you have. Namaste my friend.

I have to say that conflict in me is not without merit. Otherwise, I might become complacent. It keeps the fires burning. On the downside, it is detrimental to everyone's health. I love your piece. It has so much depth and truth. Love it.

....strong words which carry such a profound poetic weight ...there is a war within me - so that is why I write - I also write because of mixed feelings - mixed emotions - and if we had no conflict in this world what would all of the foot soldiers write about .....

Bravo to you and your wonderful writing style and thanks for dropping by and making my evening too here in Canada by the Lake of Erie on a cold winter`s night!!

I have fought small and sometime major battles most of my life, but the past 15 years I have come to terms with life and have put my warrior pride aside and humbly bow down to peace and love. I have surrendered my soul and by doing so my heart has changed. Peace and love is all we need..hugs

"It isn’t until we let go

Of our desire to win the war....."

So true! Most of us have experienced such wars within and have found respite in surrendering, finally. Perhaps there's no other way to bring peace. Thanks for a wonderful hub.

We must put on the Armor of God (Ephesians 6:12 "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.") It benefits everyone to know that a relationship with God's Son and a desire to do His will creates an inner strength that makes the Soul stronger so to handle any trials that come.

Peace to you oh Hubbing Sis, and you are a Strong person just knowing the difference. Awesome Hub!!!
