The Parting Letter (poem)

Updated on September 9, 2012

My darling I can’t see you anymore

I know it’s hard but try to understand

The love we shared was getting out of hand

Please trust it’s only you that I adore

-

I know this isn’t future we had planned

Or part of heartfelt promise that we swore

And tear filled nights will follow many more

Yet I dreamt vision of you much more grand

-

I dreamt that I was standing in your way

Tell me career and studies didn’t slow

-

I dreamt that I was leading you astray

Tell me I didn’t stifle will to grow

-

Until I am much better than today

I leave my dear because I love you so

Wow, quite a sacrifice of love, there, M. Sometimes, you just have to let go, but it's hard.

Thank you so much for not choosing Bob Dylan to sing that song. He wrote it but could never sing as well as Peter, Paul and Mary (one of my favorite folk singing groups).

      Well done and voted up.

A beautifully written poem, even though I wouldn't leave just because I love someone enough not to hold them back. I know how that feels, which I won't go into details...

      Awesome poem mhatter99! Voted-up.

While it's a noble gesture. Sometimes leaving is the worst thing you can do. Why not force yourself to become better and stay?

Lovely poem, but to let go of someone you love, just because you love them and do not want to hold them back---- now that is a hard one to take. I've always loved that song. Great choice of video too. In His Love, Faith Raper
