The Party Is Over (poem)

Updated on March 29, 2016

The revelers have left except for two

Who knew their lofty pathway from the start

Would come an end as all bright candles do

But what an end would reach a lover’s heart

-

The band remained to send a last refrain

To lovers holding close their tears that sigh

For memories like these we may retain

A place where there is no need for a goodbye

-

I offer her a kiss for all of us

Who shared with her another special day

Her unique window toward our own delight

-

For now let sleep relieve her from this fuss

As I put all the candle lights away

And soon to join her wishing you goodnight

Metaphorical with a melancholy tone, this poem is a fascinating read. I know it's a stylistic thing, but for me, adding punctuation would help the flow. Nice work though. Enjoyed.

Sleep may take awhile after the party. So many good moments to relive, and so many thoughts of what if in the future. Good read!
