The River Of Night (poem)

Updated on January 12, 2013

There by the river which flows toward the night

Where jasmine recalls that sweet yesterday

And song in the leaves will steal hearts away

While whispering breeze still promise delight

-

There by the shores where dreamers did play

Where flowers did blush their splendor ignite

And trees gently sway a dance to invite

While wishes in mist call wonder to stray

-

What dark clouds could claim this happy refrain

To rip away soul and leave feelings bare

-

Where once there was Joy now visions of rain

And with all my hopes went reason to care

-

When so much is lost but I still remain

I wonder if she still waits for me there

That last line but one, "when so much is lost but I still remain.." is such a inordinately compelling line. Thank you again for your beautiful poems. Up, interesting and beautiful.

The same line everyone seems to be honing in on is the very one standing out for me as well "when so much is lost but I still remain."

      Very honest and so relate-able.

Beautiful poem...and haunting. The music in the beautiful video is also that...haunting. If I remember correctly that same music was played in one of the movies made about the Holocaust. It instantly made me think of it when I heard the music. Up and beautiful votes.

The longing here leaves a bitter after taste... and the music fit perfectly
