Their Everlasting Love

Updated on August 3, 2015

Right from the start

she knew she had found love

it was that look of adoration

he gave her

and it melted her heart

as time went by

he was always there

and though it seemed hard for him

he expressed his love

in many different ways

he knew that she

was someone he could rely on

someone who would be true

but the remembrance of past heartaches

made him reluctant to say the three words

that would make her his forever more

and so they lived and laughed and loved

everything so very right

together they made life

most wonderful

so that the time they spent apart

seemed as of life had stopped

there was never any time

needed to make their love understood

it was done by a simple kiss

by holding hands

and most of all by smiling at one another

as the days went by

and one season changed another

she often wondered

what was on his mind

each time that she said,

“I love you”

the words seemed to go floating in the air

for there was never any reply

she never thought to wonder why

and so they loved

each in their own way

and whenever they were apart

for more than one day

when they came together

they were like two wilted flowers

who needed love like water

and would bloom

in the glow of each other’s smile

came the day when he walked away

something about seeking the truth

something about finding the love

for her deep inside

he promised to return

but he had to find a way

to be able to say

all that he felt

and so much more

she would have settled for just

a simple “I love you”

but for himself

he needed a lot more

as the days drifted one into another

she kept the faith in their love

gave him the time he needed

and waited and waited

finally came the day

when he arrived

it was a lovely autumn morning

made golden by the rising sun

and there he was before her

with a dozen red roses

a smile as warm as the sun above

and the only thing he said was

“I love you”

never had three words

sounded like musical notes

never had her heart sung

as it was singing now

and together they became as one

amazed at how wonderful

was the glory of their love

Rasma, in the title you've said it perfectly "everlasting love" - the only kind of love , you worked it out beautifully.

      Beautiful.

Love worth waiting for, and effective imagery "two wilted flowers who needed love like water and would bloom." Beautiful!

I guess it takes time for someone to say " I love you " and that's good. So many rush into a relationship and find they acted too quickly. Beautiful Rasma!

She is quite a woman to wait for her man while he goes off to find the words. I guess when love is true, it's also trusting and patient. Her wait was well worth the time they spent apart.

      Beautiful story, Rasma!

Perfect, just how it should be. The words take thought and conviction. They are too easy to simply say. Beautiful poem.

I "love" how you build until the end - it's all in how you close and it was wonderful
