Then I Understood

Updated on August 12, 2013

The heat warmed my face,

and the fire grew before my eyes,

as it crackled like the flames in a fireplace,

the fire classically executed,

and with it brought light,

with an array of colors

which kept back the night,

the yellow and red seemed to blaze

with such intensity,

that it would glaze,

and the flames streaming,

forwarding dreams of simplicity,

then the shocking screams,

the air was thin,

it was hard to breathe,

as the ultimate terror lies within,

my lips went dry then moist,

I heard violins, and a ghost talking

in a rapid animated voice,

the sounds were clear,

and when I called out,

anger seemed to settle very near,

darkness didn’t exist,

but I could hear it shout,

the flames would race,

and it filled the air,

I would choke, and choke,

as my lungs were filled with smoke,

I did all that I could,

then I understood,

I really understood.

..another great aspect of your writing - is how subtle you are - and it makes the reader work a little harder which believe me is really skillful on your part - it's when the writer and reader makes a seamless team that everything comes together - and when it comes together - I always see that relationship with your writing.

Love this piece too by the way ...... lake erie time 5:58pm

Understanding is the key to everything, and this you understands well.

A beautiful poem and I unanimously agree with you other fans , it stirs the soul.

Everything that makes one think is great because of the message it sends.

      The Lord says it correct.

Blessing my brethren another great piece.

      Bless.

where is the button for suffocating and hot? Great piece for a wintery kind of day Frank. Like the style and the words take me back to 1988 when we use to camp out of town. Thanks for the piece my friend.
