There Are Dishes To Wash

Updated on September 15, 2015

They Don't Clean Themselves

After a long day

I come home and see

The dishes staring me in the eyes

So you left me for later

I heard you say

To busy to do the dishes now

I will do them tonight

Well more than eight hours have passed

We have been sitting here all dirty

Tossed one on top of the other

Like a pile of rocks

Have you no shame ?

We serve you breakfast, lunch and dinner

That still isn't enough

We make you happy

Without us your favorite dish would be lost

We give you comfort in the morning

Holding your favorite cereal

With that cold milk

How would you like to start every day with a chill

Sure you are grumpy

Moan when you have to get up

You cover us with grease when you have bacon

Drop the hot toast on us

Right out of your toaster

Offf your finger tips because their so hot

So don't get us wrong

We we're made for this great purpose

We have out lasted many other brands

I know we are not fine china

We saved you so much money

A few of us are hand me downs from three generations

Not just a bowl I say

But grandmother's favorite bowl

Your mom's favorite mug and glass

We are part of history

You won't read about us in any school

We do our job well every time

Look what baseball players get paid

When they strike out how many times ?

I am sure you never gave us a thought

Until now

So it's getting late

Clean us up and let us air dry over night

Then you can stack us neatly where we belong

Ready for action at a moments notice

Just like the armed forces

Here to serve you day and night

So when the dishes are clean and your ready for bed

Give thanks to all the soldiers around the world that keep you safe

Then tomorrow we will also do our very best

To make you happier than before

Filling your belly

Serving you an egg omlete loaded with all kinds of veggies

Don't forget the messy ketchup you use on your home fries

That is left splattered on our plate

The mugs left with the coffee stains on the bottom

You never had it so good

Gypsy Rose Lee I think I am a kid again. I like putting my hands in water with lots of so suds. Keep the dishes coming. All your worries down the drain. At least in the sink.I will gladly do all your dishes. I get a great feeling of pride when I see a dirty dish sparkle. Thank you for reading and sharing. Have a great day.

Hate doing dishes. Almost have decided to go with picnic plates that can be disposed of. Problem being that picnic stuff is expensive to buy often. However my solution is to keep using and rewashing just a couple of dishes each day and not let them pile up. Your imagination created a most interesting poem.

Brakel2 I see sad people all over the world. What if for just thirty seconds not even a minute these same people could be happy. Wouldn't that be the most amazing thing ever. I know these same people would return to sad. Because that is what they are use feels right even though it's not. You are deceived by your own senses. Now what if for a second these same people turn again to that feeling of joy. In time they may return again and again. Until one day they may never leave. That's my master plan. Thank you again for letting me entertain you. May happiness flood your every vein.

annart When I see my day. It is the most common of all days. Nothing exciting and no famous people or events. Then I get an idea. What if I take my day and look at it under a microscope and now I see the incredible life that exsists right before my very eyes. Now I roll with it. Sometimes I write a good poem. Then again I have written some that are just ahead of their time. I don't know what to make of them. My mind and my brain our one. I would appreciate it if someone would let them both know. Each one has something different to say. I take a back seat and listen. Who has the time to prove a point. One day we may agree. For now it's one poem or three. Thank you for putting up with us. We have our heart in the right place. Even if our thoughts are anywhere from down the street , around the corner to outer space.

This is so funny about the dishes. An actual poem about a real situation to read about and get some enjoyment. Thanks so much for sharing. I must read more of these. Blessings, Audrey

I know what you mean. I keep saying I should do mine before I go to bed but somehow it rarely gets done. But then I don't have to rush out in the morning so it's all very laid back!

annart We try to wash our dirty dishes as soon as we can. Some days we are pressed for time and we have to leave them for later. When they pile up it makes the whole kitchen look a mess. Thank you for reading and sharing. Have a good morning.

This is great fun! Hooray for the forgotten dishes! They do indeed do us a great service.
