There is Nothing, Except....

Updated on November 10, 2013

She had to learn to live with herself
It wasn’t loneliness
It was being alone
She caught up to the life she leads
She finally realized
Her children are grown

There is nothing to decide
And nothing to live for
Except to open her heart
Just like once before

She finally learned how to be free
Everything is ready
For the angel dove
She can’t decide to leave herself or not
She has to trust
She has to love

There is nothing to say
And nothing to hear
Except to open her mind
And say no to fear

She is so strong when the sun rises
Everyone can see
How much she cares
She’s only human when the sun sets
It’s when she realizes
Her dream is not there

There is nothing to dream
And nothing to awaken
Except to the romance
That has been forsaken

She see’s visions of her choices
But there is no ending
Only a beginning
She can live the way she pleases
But she hears another heart
And the song it is singing

There is nothing to remember
And nothing to forget
Except you cannot live alone
With a heart full of regret

It seems I know someone going through this very emotional state.

      Very good work.

Thank you both. We've heard it time and time again: Loneliness versus being alone. If you can live alone and with yourself then you are ready for love because you are not doing it out of weakness....

I suppose you know, but you summed up so much in the first three lines. So many think they are lonely, but in reality, they simply have not learned to be alone....with themselves. I really enjoyed your poem.
