Alone with the wind .....poem

Updated on November 2, 2014

Around the sleeping corners of darkened night
whistles a cold November wind
I listen without sleeping while
autumn commits its sin

Through cold glass I watch leaves of
snow gather in the lee of long hours
At the foot of the stove the dog stretches
and then softly snores

I know without asking that no one else lies
awake tonight
But as the winds cry softly
it say's the storm will be alirght

Are the winds but to move the storm front
out to the edge of the sea
Or do they blow to remind me
that sleep never comes for free

Once again I toss and turn as unwelcome
day light makes it known
no sooner has the storm gone past
as the winds die down

I am less remembered by she that
meant the most
She has gone where the winds have hidden
out beyond the stormy coast

"While autumn commits its sin"... this fits well with readers. I know I can relate to loss, the evil traitor, the cause of sleepless nights. Beautiful, Ed.
