There is something wrong...a dark poem

Updated on June 29, 2011

There is something very wrong with me

Death and destruction all that I see

Everything filled with ash and decay

Darkness consuming every day

Beauty withers before my eyes

As everything I see slowly dies

Every single breath

Filled thick with the taste of death

Voices distorted to my ear

Laced with emptiness and tears

Barren landscapes all around me

The earth burning as I struggle to get free

Laughter of demons haunts my nightmares

As this madness fully ensnares

My soul slowly decaying

My heart cold and dying

The living nothing more than waiting dead

Their fates clear in my head

There is something wrong with everyone

As I slowly understands what needs to be done

Seeing the truth for the first time

I reach for the destiny that is solely mine

Alone in a world gone to hell

I have to break the devils spell

And grant the waiting dead some peace

Giving them their final release

Hunting them both night and day

Ignoring the lies that they all say

And in the moments of death, I finally see

The beauty that has been lost to me

Their faces smooth and clear

Finally free of decay and fear

I can taste again the sweet breath of life

As I save them from a world full of strife

There is something very wrong with me

As I try to deny what I see

In the reflection of the mirror

My dying eyes fill with terror

As death takes its final hold

Leaving my skin decaying and cold

The laughter of my madness returns

As around me the whole world burns

thank you so much for taking the time to read this and to leave such a full comment!

I have always felt that I write better when I am upset or feeling dark, and like yourself i can often struggle to find my muse when the waters of life are a calm.

I am so thrilled that you enjoyed this my dark poem :)

      Thank you

I am not sure where my inspiration always comes from... my life ? the lives of others around me or is it the things that are left unseen? after all with out darkness we would have no light, without hate how would we know love?...

no I am the one wondering if I make sense :) I am glad that you get something from my writings that truly means a lot to me, thank you so much!!

Awesome!! This is a wonderfully dark journey but it has within it - for me a ray of hope. Are the demons your sub-conscious? It seems like you are a sensitive at times taking on the pain of the world and working it off through your beautiful work. I'm not sure if I'm making a lot of sense here. Your poem stirred up so much images in me - This is one piece of great work. Have bookmarked it and voted up + awesome. You are a rare and unique talent.

..well no one gets me more excited ....when it comes to the dark side than 'you' - you have taught your 'willing' student well - and yes, epi-man has been unleashed onto the pages of Hub - but there's no 'rub' here - just the best writing of this particular genre loved by so many because NIGHTHAG does it like no other !!!!!

I had shivers and it was not of cold... You could easily take part in the Japanese tradition of 100 tales of horror. Your imagination is wondrous, nighthag ^_^

It gives me great comfort and hope to know that you don't only understand the darkness of depression but that you so freely offer your empathy to others speaks volumes about your heart.

Writing has always been a release for me, freeing my mind of the sometimes crippling thoughts that attempt to drag me down into what feels like a living hell.

thanks so much for your comment and your wonderful support all this time :)I am so glad to hear that you also hit the magical 100 hub score congrats to you also..

I would love for you to read more of my work :) (what writer wouldn't?) thank you for your nurturing caring words and thoughts, depression is something that I do battle with and from time to time it does and will affect my writing.

Thank you again for taking the time to read my dark poem aggressive that it was :)

Nighthag my fine poet friend. I sense your depression, your fears, your anger, your abyss echoing back to you why are we here, where are we going, what the hell is HELL all about, etc etc.

I to in moments like this take my Quill and dip it into the darkest of inks I can find, open my wine, light my wax and scribe from my soul, sometimes I find myself passed out with my head on my table and sweating from the heat I produced and my closeness to hell.

My friend I felt this extremely warped yet meaningful piece. Bravo, brilliant...BTW congratulations on your reaching 100 hubscore, I hit it last week, they kept me up there for a day and then I slid back down to my usual mid 90's...too funny.

Wow, This took me down a very dark path, then just briefly, the darkness lifted. Depression reeks havoc on the soul. The madness you envision at the end, reminds me of written scripture of the last day's. Very well done. Loved it!!!

So much darkness, so much despair, but a glimmer of light where the lost souls are held tight and transformed. Skillful poetry, I like it also.

A dark poem with continuity, purpose and form.

It is so refreshing to see rhyming couplets that make sense and are not grouped in meaningless pairs, just because they are rhyming

Dark and frightful and lovely all at once.

Keep on writing the demons from your soul onto the paper.

You can be in many prayers and thoughts!

The world was like this for indivuals before we had the media to let us see it.

I find it a phase that we all go through. Very well written and trust me you are not the only one tormented by a demon. It how we deal witht them and release them...

I have asked the same question.

Perhaps not all poets write from within so that the feelings reflect in the writing...

but I can feel some deep trouble here..

Voted up because this is amazing .... I hope to read some more keep it up :)
