The manufacture of soap from Sandalwood was one of the contributions from Sir.M.V the Dewan of the Princely State of Mysore.No where in India it was started as early as 1944.The Factory fell in to the lap of the Govt once the Princely State was merged in to independent India.The Soap manufactured from this wood has herbal qualities,removes skin rashes,soothes the skin and has anti static properties.This is the only soap in the world to have pure natural sandalwood oil,world over it has market for its herbal properties. When I visited USA I carried several Sandal Soaps and at the Customs they screened my baggage and asked me if I had kept Mango's.

I told them NO.

They told me threateningly if they Find Mango's they would impose a hefty fine as MYSORE sandal soaps resemble the oval shape almost like Mango's.

I use only Sandal Soap since 50 years.Whenever I go to buy soap I am tempted to use some other soap.I did make a change and purchased Lavender Soap and came home to have my bath the next day.The soap did not smell Lavender when I opened it in the bath room but it did smell perfectly Lavender at the shop where I purchased. There was no possibility of returning it to the shop so I tried using it and found it very hard.I had read on the soap cover it was for shampoo but I forgot and tried as a bath soap.After taking my bath with out using it as a shampoo I smelled my hand to see if it smelled Lavender but there was no smell.It did surprise me how a sandal soap smelled but not Lavender.

I was thinking and thinking where the smell had gone and I remembered the sales boy at the shop saying that Lavender Scent will last for 3 days.What they have done is perhaps spray a little of Lavender Scent on any ordinary soap and keep doing it once in 3 days till all the soap gets exhausted from the shelf.I had paid 4 times the price of my Mysore Sandal Soap to buy a soap which perhaps costed the shop keeper half the price of my Mysore Sandal Soap made in Bangalore by Govt of Karnataka and sold all over the world.

This was the soap that I carried to USA and it looked like a mango on the 'X' Ray screen to the custom inspector who told me that there will be a hefty fine if my soap turned out to be a Mango when he emptied the contents of my Cabin Bag to see my Mysore Soap which I was taking to my son.
