Thief of Hearts - a Poem

Updated on October 23, 2012

Thief of Hearts

This is a poem I wrote in 1992, October 24 when young love was budding, spending secluded times in my bedroom with my diary, a pen and the outpouring of feelings.

So many times I spent

Intimate affections with my diary

Writing how I feel

Of you so secretly.

The thought of you

Would fairly fill

Empty pages

Locked for years

When of the past

The man I’ve chosen

Left no shadow

Only stains of tears.

Here you are

A thief of hearts

Stealing mine so helplessly

Flaming kiss and sweet arrest

Capturing the thief

To hold on to me.

I will be your

precious stone

as you will be mine,

mine alone.

Oh that's wonderful, always exploring. I think I had one diary all my life, then, I went on with journals (notebooks and drawing pads). I have still kept little notes from my classmates in highschool, and oh those "puppy love" love me the goosebumps now. :) Thank you. Glad this hub brought back memories of your first love...I hope they were fond ones.

We could write about so many, don't we, Gypsy, as a teen? When love is blooming and when it dies, our notebook is a form of comfort, it is all written in ink. Thank you dear Gypsy Rose Lee!

Hi rajan! Love is a wonderful feeling, yes, there is no need to debate on it, hahaha. I realize now that a "thief of hearts" can be both ways. One, the man who steals her heart who is not committed to anyone else. The other, the man who looks to steal the heart of another to have her. Thank you, rajan!

Voted up and beautiful. Young love is wonderful and thanks for bringing back some great memories. As a teen I would wander around with notebook and pen in hand. Passing this on.

That was the "key" to writing poetry and still is...being inlove! I can picture you sitting in your dorm room, billybuc and writing love poems. Were you facing a window? Did you have a roommate who had possibly found out of your scribbling love letters?

I never write poetry, but at one time I did; back when I was in college and seemingly in love every single day. I would sit in my dorm room at night and write love poems, and the world was a beautiful place.

      Thanks for the memories!
