"Think Big And Kick Ass" by Donald Trump

Updated on April 30, 2010

Donald Trump Hates Mark Cuban

After buying the book about a year ago, I FINALLY cracked it open and I couldn't put it back down. If you want to know how Donald Trump feels about Rosie O'Donnell, Mark Cuban, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, George Clooney, Ronald Reagan, Angelina Jolie, Gary Player, Heather Mills, Lee Iacocca, Jimmy Carter and Katie Couric, you need to read this book. He tells you his opinions on life, people and business. Some are good, some are bad and some are downright mean.

Of course, Trump also talks about business motivation and having passion in what you do. He uses the people mentioned above in his examples for business and life and the rights or wrongs these people have done. He uses plenty of real-life examples of how he obtained wealth, property and power but he also tells about his failures and near collapse in the early-90s.

The book is an easy read and I'll go over all the chapters below.

"Think Big And Kick Ass" is a book for everyone who loves or hates Trump. Make sure you fasten your seatbelt as you might get riled up in what he has to say.

Trump Chapter Review

Introduction - In the introduction, you will be introduced to Bill Zanker, the President/Founder of The Learning Annex. Inadvertently, Donald Trump turned The Learning Annex to a company making a few thousand dollars to millions. Zanker tells you how in the introduction and then also ends each chapter of the book with "Zanker's Take" which is a summary of Trumps lessons and how he applied them to his life/business.

Chapter 1 - Do You Have What It Takes? - In the first chapter, Trump gives you a 15 question test to see if YOU possess the passion and entrepreneurial drive to be successful in business. This book is for the person that wants to excel, not only in his/her job, but to become an entrepreneur. This basic test will see how you compare to the 98% of the people that Trump says you need to beat. If you don't score too high, don't worry - Trump tells you what you need to work on to achieve your goals.

Chapter 2 - Passion, Passion, Passion! - Trump starts the chapter by saying, "You have to love what you do or you are never going to be successful no matter what you do in life." Wow. Such strong words but Trump says it's true. He explains that making money isn't his passion. His passion is making deals! The after affect of making deals is more money. That is what a passion will do for you. He tells you simple life lessons such as learn from your mistakes, never give up, take action and the power of knowledge. He gives many The Apprentice life examples in the book and it starts in this chapter.

Chapter 3 - Basic Instincts - Your gut instinct is something you should never ignore. According to Trump, you can analyze, research and get every statistic that you need to make a deal but if your gut is telling you differently, you should listen to it. Basic instinct can help with timing and deals.

Chapter 4 - Creating Luck - Trump does admit that some people are more lucky than others. But the difference is that they CREATE their own luck. How is that possible? Trump quotes a line from Gary Player, a professional golfer. After people wondered how Player could win PGA events by being so small, he said, "The harder I work, the luckier I get." Trump goes back to this quote over and over again in his book. To create luck, you have to think positively, take on new challenges, be open to new ideas and be persistent.

Chapter 5 - Fear Factor - This chapter is basically about commanding respect from yourself, friends, enemies and your employees. Trump stresses that you must value loyalty "above everything else" and Trump shows you ways he did not help people who were disloyal to him. In this chapter, Trump tells you that "lions kill for food, humans kill for sport" to let you know how brutal the business world, and real life, can be. There is a ton of knowledge to learn in this chapter.

Chapter 6 - Revenge - Out of all the chapters in this book, this is the one I disagree with. But that might be way Trump is a billionaire and I'm not! Trump is a firm believer in taking revenge on anyone who tries to take advantage and embarrasses you. He does say "forgive good people" but don't even think about forgiving "bad people." He does accept people's apology but never trust those people again. He tells of a story of professional athlete who called him for advice and now calls the guy a "schmuck" because he didn't have the fight to take revenge on a manager who was robbing him blind. Trump doesn't put up with people who let others take advantage of them.

Chapter 7 - Big Mo! - This chapter talks about how extremely important momentum is in your life. This was an eye-opening chapter. I was able to see how momentum changed my course several times in life from good to bad and bad to good. Trump says you start with no momentum when you start something new but quickly can build momentum "with passion and intensity." You can't ever give up and never stop. Trump tells you how to continually build momentum and how to use it to your advantage to get others on board.

Chapter 8 - Never Take Your Eye Off The Ball - Trumps says not to let worrying slow you down or let the bad times bring you down. Stay focused. Be flexible. Trump even talks about how a spouse can hurt or help your business career.

Chapter 9 - I Love You, Sign This - This chapter brings up the touchy subject of prenuptial agreements. Trump insists you should ALWAYS have one made no matter how rich or poor you may be. Trump uses several examples including Paul McCartney. Almost 60% of all marriages end in divorce so don't let "love cloud your judgment."

Chapter 10 - Think Big And Kick Ass In Business And Life - Trump basically goes over the key points of the book so everyone can succeed in life and in their business endeavors. You will hear Trump talk about passion throughout the book and that is key to succeed in anything in life. The money will come with the passion. Find what you love to do in life and pursue it.

Appendix - The appendix is filled with real-life questions that people have asked Trump at The Learning Annex seminars. There are also testimonials and free admission to a future The Learning Annex seminar.

Donald Trump's Motivation

After reading the book (only took 3 days once I started), I became completely motivated to pursue goals that I put on the back-burner.  It's one thing to listen to an inspirational friend who has encouraging words but it's another to hear it from a billionaire who's been through the ups and downs.

Trump talks to you in a way that is not condescending or like he's this big guru.  He pulls real-life experiences that WE ALL go through and shows you how his advice fits in.  This book will definitely get you motivated.

All of us can Think Big And Kick Ass!  But only a few of us will take it to heart.

I like the idea of thinking Big. I enjoyed this book review. My Favorite book is The Magic of Thinking Big that has similar philosophy as Think Big And Kick Ass.

"I am not satisfied just by earning a good living, I want to make a huge contribution in this society."
