L.M. Reid is an Irish writer who has published many articles in magazines and online.

Napoleon Hill

Napoleon Hill explains in this book exactly what you have to do in order to earn money, become rich and get the life that you want. He outlines everything you need to do in step by step instructions.

He is different to many other authors of these type of books because he tells it how it is. To get an idea of how this book is written and the aim of the author I will quote the first few lines of the introduction. ‘Before beginning the book you will profit greatly if you recognise the fact that the book was not written to entertain……It should be studied, … digested ’

I have read this book "Think and Grow Rich", by Napoleon Hill many times because there is so much relevant information in it. Here is my review.

Positive Affirmations and Visualizations

Getting everything you want out of life is to think and imagine it in your mind. Positive affirmations and visualizations are the first step. But that is where many other authors leave it. They give the impression that once you have mastered this technique then you will get what you have ordered from the cosmic Universe by just sitting there and waiting for it.

This Book is Different

It takes you by the hand in thirteen chapters and gives you a comprehensive work plan. Follow this plan and put it into action and you will be taking your first positive steps to finally earning as much money as you want.

New Age and Self Help Books

I am an avid reader of self help books and have read so many of them. I started to read them in the 1990’s when the idea of positive thinking and energy was called New Age. It is more widely accepted now and there are many great books out there.

And of course with the invention of the internet and the likes of You Tube we all have free access to more and more authors of these books. I have learned how to do tapping, meditation, positive thinking and affirmations etc so by now I should be rich and in control of my own life destiny. Not quite but I am getting there.

Self Help Awareness

My journey of Self Help awareness for a better career and lots of money and freedom. All along this personal journey of collecting knowledge and the pursuit of my self improvement there was one author that was mentioned quite a bit.

A lot of the people I listened to and books I read would mention Napoleon Hill and his book, Think and Grow Rich. He wrote the book in 1937. I could never find the book in second hand shops or the library because it was out of print. Then in 2007 it was republished by The Ralston Society under the Marketplace Classics series.

Yes I Read the Book ‘The Secret’ too

It did have all the elements of this first step and had many people very excited about the concepts of positive energy and visualizations and what you can achieve when using it in your every day life. But where the book ‘The Secret’ did introduce many more new readers to the power of positive energy it also left a lot of them very disappointed. It did not explain in any detail the most important step in creating wealth, joy and happiness.

Positive Visualizations

You have to take action on your positive visualizations. That is the main difference of the book Think and Grow Rich. The author is very insistent that you will not get very far if you sit there and enjoy yourself imagining all the wonderful things you want out of life if that is all you do.

Make Them Happen

He says that the way to manifest your true desires is to get up and Make them happen. You do this by creating the emotion of desire in your mind and this will manifest as action that has to be taken by you. This will get you on the right path to realising your goals of money and financial freedom.

It took Napoleon Hill over twenty five years of interviews and research of the richest men in the world before he felt he had enough information to explain his findings in this book.

The Magic Formula

Andrew Carnegie explained the secrets to him of how he made his money and became rich. Napoleon Hill says ‘It was Mr Carnegie’s idea that the magic formula, which gave him stupendous fortune, ought to be made within reach of people.

Napoleon Hill's Top 10 Rules For Success

Desire - The Starting Point of all Achievement

The first step towards riches. Those two quotes are the headings for the first step to achieving financial independence in this book. He explains how to start on the road to making all the money you want.

But he is very definite that you have to have the ‘desire’ enough to put these steps into action. He called it ‘money consciousness.’ He shows you how by ‘creating in your own mind, a burning desire for a definite form of riches’, that you will attract money and success into your life!

13 Steps to Riches

There are thirteen steps to riches outlined in each chapter and explained in great detail in the book

  1. Desire.
  2. Faith.
  3. Auto-suggestion.
  4. Specialized knowledge.
  5. Imagination.
  6. Organized planning.
  7. Decision.
  8. Persistence.
  9. Power of the Master Mind.
  10. The mystery of sex transmutation.
  11. The Subconscious Mind.
  12. The Brain.
  13. The Sixth Sense.
  14. Clearing the brain for riches.

He also explains the thirty major causes of failure

How to Manifest Your Desires Fast

How to learn the easy way to manifest money, power and your desires. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill is a very old book that has been republished so we can all learn the Secret Formula that Andrew Carnegie and some of the other richest men in the world used to accumulate their money, riches and power.

There are many fact based stories of people that the author interviewed about what they did and how they achieved their goal to become rich. Enjoy reading the book straight through first.

Then go back and read again and again and put the knowledge you learn into practice so that your desire of Financial Freedom can be turned into reality. Start on your personal journey of earning all the money you ever wanted to in your life right now

Yes Lipnancy, I agree. Anyone can learn these positive techniques and if they have the confidence and belief then they will work.

gmwilliams Napoleon Hill is in my opinion one of the best authors of these type of motivational books.

If you have most of his books then you will be very familiar with his style of writing and guidance for a better life. I intend to get another one of his books soon and to eventually read them all.

Thank you both for taking the time to leave a comment

Yes and Hill talks about earning money during the recession in the 30's and now we are all trying to do the same in this recession too. So I agree JayeWisdem that this book has timeless gems of information.

You write that 'Only the most motivated, determined and self-disciplined person is likely to follow through with the book's instructions.' Yes I agree and that is what Napoleon Hill says in the book. Sitting around dreaming of being rich will not make it so. If you have a true Desire to have loads of money then you will turn yourself into one of those people so that you can earn enough money to become rich.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment

Isn't it amazing that a book written in the late 1930s should contain valid information that can still help people in the 21st century reach their financial goals? This is what one would term a "timeless" book by an insightful author.

However, simply reading the book is not enough to help the reader grow rich. The reader must put Napoleon Hill's precepts into action...and that is where the reader's personality, character and determination come into play. Only the most motivated, determined and self-disciplined person is likely to follow through with the book's instructions.
