Thirty-Six Years

Tanka

by

Dr. Darryl Winer

Thirty-six years ere

Standing in the synagogue

The love of my life

And I took genuine vows

Then, glass crushed under my foot

Plentiful glass shards

As foretold and heralded

Symbolizes change

The glass, forever altered

Marriage transforms the lovers

The shattered glass, too

Represents a broken world

In need of repair

Our hands and minds worthy work

Labors of love and lovers

Blessings abounding

Jubilant hearts welling up

Utter amazement

Wet, manifest tears of joy

Granted far more than our share

Hands and hearts held tight

Sunlit days brought clarity

Gleaming eloquence

That so few, it seems, attain

An inestimable gift

The strength of knowing

Tender, unbreakable bonds

Crystalline shared love

Grows more robust over years

Transparent, and resilient

Thirty-six years hence

My beautiful bride and I

Even more in love

Lived through far more good than bad

Every new day, a cherry

      Suelynn-

I'm a lucky man, and know it. Besides I was only 5 when we got married...

      Thank you Suelynn-

Sometimes Tanka has the flexibility to make a point that eludes haiku. Or, maybe, sometimes it's just me who can't get the thought into 5-7-5.

      Glad you enjoyed these.

DW, this is so heartfelt and beautiful! This is so great, I mean, all the ways - Tanka is skillfully done and the deep meaning of it reaches heart and soul. It feels really inspirational and brings joy and delight knowing that somebody over their in this big world found and cherishes and embraces that love and happiness that every human being is searching and longs for. Heartwarming creation, amazing! Thank you for sharing =)
