Those Are My Memories Too

Updated on January 26, 2013

Word around town is you've told everyone

That nothing is left between us

And every memory we shared

You've turned around in your mind

Until I am the villain

Somehow

And now for some reason

You need me to agree

That these memories you've dissected and stripped

Of any real meaning

Are the truth

But don't you understand

Those are my memories too?

And I still see things

That you never saw

And although looking back

Can be so bitter sometimes

And we've both changed so much

There were seeds even then

Of what we'd become

And I cherish them

Because they're my memories too

And they helped turn me into

The person I am

And you can't convince me

That they didn't mean anything

And just because you want

Or maybe need

To throw them all away somehow

Doesn't mean you get to make me do the same

Those are my memories too

Beautiful Kara. I think when a relation is over the extent that we become apart of the other person is determined by how deep invested our self in that person.

This is really good. It could be excellent with a few tweeks. I only say that because I wish I had come up with the idea myself :o)

It is hard when people break up. There are those who choose to remember and those who don't.

And sometimes the memories seem to be a little different for each of the pair. Very well done.

Break ups really hurt. I can understand the pain, the misery after break up. Usually just because of one unfaithful person it takes place. And unfortunately the person who wants to move away, blames other for everything.

This is bitter truth. One always wants to live in those memories.

      Beautiful poem.

I've never understood the reason people lie in break-ups. It's almost as though they wish to save face...but from what? If the other party was so bad, why'd they date them to begin with? Perhaps it's the hurt speaking. Strong feelings here and anger, frustration and a need of understanding. Great Poem!
