"Those Dreaded Letters From Mom"

What ever you need to do to get your childrens attention, do it, Mines was writingletters to my children.
What ever you need to do to get your childrens attention, do it, Mines was writingletters to my children.

'Those Dreaded Letters From Mom"

My home use to be a single parent home, with five children and with me working most of the timeI wasn't around enough to discipline the kids the way I wanted to; but I tried to raise my children properly.l tried to teach them about God and his words of truth, I tried to teach them to treat people the way you want to be treated, regardless of race or color. I taught them to to love one another and help each other when they were in trouble; and although I believed wholeheartedly in in not sparing the rod, I was blessed to have pretty decent children.  I did have to whip my children a lot, I talked with and reason with them with a lot, physical punishment was the last result, but there were times when it was necessary.   They wasn't real hard headed, they did listen, there were times when they wanted to buck the system; it was then when they received the dreaded letter from mom. There's a joke around my house about those dreaded letters from mom, that I just realized existed this year.  My children all make fun of those dreaded letters of moms, by saying oh, no, a letter from mom,What did do or what have I done now. It's really kind of funny now, because I never knew that there was a thing going on with the kids about the letters that I wrote to them

They really dreaded my letters with a passion, no one ever wanted to get a letter form mom, because they knew it was anything nice in it. I'm a mother that doesn't believe in profanity or any form of cursing, in fact I really hate it. My mom always said you don't have to curse to get you point over, you use words to cut like a  knife and that's exactly what I do. When I  write one of my dreaded letters, I normally talk about how they have hurt me, or disappointed me, and let themselves down all of their down failings, this makes them feel very, very small. They will tell you right now;if they had a choice between getting a letter from me and a whipping, they would choose the whipping any day over the letter. Right now, they laugh and joke about those dreaded letters from mom, I even laugh about, because I didn't know that my letters was such a dreaded thing to them until now. I even write my husband, when  I can't  express what I feeling  in verbal words, so I pick up my pen and pad and start writing, I can write my soul down on paper.

I truly express myself ifbetter by writing it out, it seems to flow out better than verbal words. I  don't know how other mothers get to the heart of their children; but I use my pen and paper, because I'm not a screamer, or a yell-er, I'm more of a laid back kind of mom; but I guarantee , if I write you a letter,I promise you will feel every words that's written. Writing is a great commincation for me and I have used it all my life in one area or another.  So, mothers pick up your pen and paper.

Thank you always exploring, but although, I wrote letters to my children, they did get their share of spanking, when the letters didn't reach them. Thank you for support, comment and feedback. Godspeed. creativeone59

creativeone59 this is very inspirational for those who are parenting. My son would often complain that his late father's lectures (after a sound spanking) were worse than the spankings. Your hub is proof of the power of the written word. Excellent hub

I think that's why we love to write on here - I have an easier time expressing myself as well but funny thing is, people in MY family get ticked if I write a letter. They feel that it is too impersonal - so I have to go through the whole thing verbally or they will not be satisfied! I've always felt that writing it out makes you clearer - and plus the fact it avoids arguments. If you are trying to express yourself and it is personal, sometimes the other person interrupts or they take it the wrong way. Anyhow - good hub, Faye!

I think I am going to have to use this one creativone. I used to dread when my mother said - "we have to talk." I think writing a letter to your children is a unique way of addressing problems as well. Though they may have dreaded to some extent - due to the fact that they did not want to dissapoint or hurt you - I think the older they got the more they appreciated them.
