Those Finches

Updated on November 30, 2012
Source

The finch and his friends upon the tree

resemble moments I saw before

out my window in front of me

ahead of me

outside the door.

I’m quick to go

things to do

no time to stop

enjoy the view

Traffic lights and airplanes

braking quickly moving fast

sirenes blare like wild flames

It’s too late the dye’s been cast

Squirrel jumps into the road

Skidding, veering to the right

another second, I wipe my brow

he seems to fly right out of sight

The music on the radio

moves my forward destiny

dance the beat of the disco

I’m back in nineteen-seventy

Crows line wires up above

I’d like to stop forget my job

and watch the day and scenes I love

the tires screach again the brakes are on

"Pedestrians! … I swear, there are signs!"

Here. Now, time to start ...

horns blare between the lines

the car is stopped and put in park

Walking toward where I work

those finches squeak and buzz and swell

I smile as I look above

remind me to be thankful
