Updated on February 29, 2012

Mountain and Sea Rescue

Often times, when enjoying the beautiful landscapes on our doorstep, we forget those people who lives depend on the services of others. This hub is a tribute to the Land, Air and Sea Rescue Services, who by sheer bravery and courage, takes care of our lives every day.

Those Mountains of Mourne

With fields of green and granite walls

the Mountains of Mourne

iron soldiers

Who observe and fall

In hidden depth into the sea

Snow capped peeks

shrouded in the endless

whisper of mist

that obscures the sentinal on guard

Gaping valleys wafting sweet

that caress the heart of man

a fragile world yet powerful enough

to take the lives

of many seasoned travellers.

Pebbles lost fathoms below

Shores bulge with the ebbing tide

shouting out a deadly warning

Yet able to warm the soul

There the beautiful flowering haw

whose yellow flowers protect the heart

and can be drunk in a healing brew

still warn in urgent tones“beware, beware”

Roam this mountain as you will

Wind and rain know no better

the travellers compass points to doom

as those peaks claim their new victim

and all seasons gather to share the fruit.

What a beautiful tribute to the Land, Air and Sea Rescue workers that we rarely think about until times of trouble. Their bravery and dedication is amazing and I'm often awed when I see some video of rescues on the news or in documentaries.

Voting this up across the board except for funny.

I love your poetic prose and the stunning photos.

      Morning Bluestar.

A lovely tribute to these quiet hero's that risk their own lives to rescue others in need.

As an old sea dog I respect the work these people do.

Take care and say hello to Ulster for me.
