Richard F. Fleck has always been an advocate of outdoor teaching and outdoor writing with a pencil and notepad on hand in the field.

Three Winter Rondelet (Poetry)

Sharp Winds

Such cold wildness

Has spread across the wizen land

Such cold wildness

Has gripped my very mind and soul

With sharp winds freezing my two hands

Like some huge, waving arctic fan

Such cold wildness

Winter Grasses

Rusty blond grass

Spreads far beneath sunny green pines

Rusty blond grass

Under a higher snowy ridge

Wooded with ponderosa pine

Gleaming in a bright white sunshine

Rusty blond grass

Winter Pond

Groaning ice cracks

All across a frozen white tarn

Groaning ice cracks

in midst of long silent meadow

sounding off a sudden alarm

not to fall under this tarn's charm

Groaning ice cracks

Thank you animalman, we're in for more snow and bitter cold in the Rockies.

Brief, yet they paint a vivid picture in my mind. Today was a mild day here in southern New England.

Thanks Gypsy Rose Lee. It was cold but beautiful for a local Sierra Club hike.

What a wondrous but potentially dangerous picture you paint. This is an excellent poem and voted up for sure.

Thank you johly beichhualai. True enough, but each season has its own beauty cold or hot.

Thanks. We have different seasons in a year. If winter comes, can Spring be far behind?

Thanks very much Valleypoet! It was cold today but quite sunny--perhaps causing the ice to crack.
