Through The Veil

Updated on November 26, 2013

See them there?

That is us.

That phantom couple

kissing over coffee

at that tiny table.

They live

beyond the veil

in the other universe

where they belong together

and walk hand in hand

along sandy roads

lined with seagrass.

See them there?

They live as we only would...

Delighting in each other's habits

by day.

Relishing each other's bodies

by night.

See them there?

That is us,

just beyond the veil

They live for us.

As we cannnot,

and they smile

and say,

Wait.

      Jennifer,

Keep to writing poems. It's an art form. You got it!

      "...sandy...sea grass...smile..."

These words speak a softness found in natural life that

escorts us to know what truly is on our faces; that

      which can truly be.

.....I am a '80's boy, too, lol, did all of my nightclubbing in that decade in all night clubs like the Domino and the Voodoo in Toronto.

Yes the Heroes version by Gabriel is from a fairly new album of his done entirely with an orchestra and he really deconstructs Bowie's version.

He does a lovely version of another song called Don't give up with one of my all time favorites Kate Bush

Alot of your writing actually reminds me of Kate Bush which is a big compliment as she is one of my favorite songwriters.

I once stripped to Gabriel's Shock the Monkey as I was wearing a wedding gown at a Halloween party and I was dancing with a 5 foot stuffed monkey and yes this is a true story. lol

p.s. - and yes Gabriel is a favorite of mine too - I've seen him 3 times in concert and once with Genesis on their legendary The lamb lies down on Broadway tour

I enjoy a couple Peter Gabriel tunes "In Your Eyes" (sorry, 80's girl) and another song called "I Grieve" which is just a haunting song about any kind of loss. I will check out his version! And thanks again for the Facebook share!

There are many covers of this song - a slowed down version by Peter Gabriel in which I would recommend and one by Nico which sounds like a dirge, and one by Blondie which sounds like a celebration - the original by Bowie is textured musically speaking by two legends - the guitar of Robert Fripp and the ambience of Brian Eno

Thank you Epi! I am so honored by your encouragement, kindness and sharing! I will have to listen to that song! This poem was one of those that seemed to bleed out onto the page from a place that is both painful and beautiful. So it pleases me to no end for you to call it a favorite! I will have to check out that song too!

I don't have to wait - I am here on the threshold of poetic greatness- and this is such an original and pleasing piece of writing but then again it's the Theater girl and I've come to expect such high standards anyway .

One of my favorites by you though and for some reason it reminded me of my one of my favorite songs - Heroes by David Bowie , so I will do the honored and timely thing and that is to link and post with much pride and enthusiasm your lovely lyrical ode to my FB page for all to see and read.
