Timeless Books to Definitely Read Now

Updated on June 23, 2015

We are often molded by books one way or another. It’s crucial to choose wisely what we read because it affects our perspective. Reading a book is like listening to a stranger that has a story to tell. When I read a book, I like the experience of getting into its own world and using my creative imagination. I want to share with you the books that I can say are must reads.

Purpose Driven Life

I remember the time I read it in our school library back in college. When I saw it, I am excited to get it at the shelf and sit comfortably. I was curious why it was so popular. As we all know it was widely read by many. I’m not a Christian back then. And I’m glad I read it. It is not corny or mushy but a very direct to the point narrative and discussion what really is our purpose. It will challenge you. It will make you realize many things like some activities we spend time that don’t matter .You will view God in a different way, not in a way He was introduced by many. That’s the reason why it was popular. Do you know that the author Rick Warren only get the ten percent of the entire book’s sale revenue? Call it reverse tither .The remaining ninety percent, he donated to the ministry. I find that amazing. I guess his really not after the money but after the benefit of the people from his book.

The Alchemist

This book was recommended by a friend. He was so eager that I must read it. Well I myself highly recommend this to be read by everyone. I don’t want to spoil it but I will give you the reason why it is worth reading. One word: Dreams. That I think is the perfect keyword for it. As we grow old our dreams gets shrunk. I presume it’s because we realize that dreams aren’t easy to achieve. It’s a lot of journeys of learning and persistence. You can identify with some of its characters. There’s comedy and suspense. And it’s not long. It’s engaging and there are so many quotable quotes. After you read it, I bet you will dream some more.

Rich Dad Poor Dad

The book starts by introducing his two dads where he gets much of his principles specifically on finances. The author Robert Kiyosaki explains how valuable financial education is. More than gaining a lot of money, without the right knowledge to handle it, you will surely lose it quickly. That’s probably the reason behind why some lottery winners quickly became bankrupt. I was shocked by some of his principles. For instance: A house is not an asset. He also gave some of the good habits we can develop to boost our finances because wealth is not built overnight. Definitely it’s a must because everyone needs money. Reading this is a good start to proper handle and grow it.

After the Fire

This is a real life story of Shawn Simons and Alvaro Llanos after a horrible tragic event of a fire raged through a Seton Hall dormitory. After reading this you will never take for granted burned victims. Our respect for the nurses and doctors that assist them will never be the same again. The agony the victims that underwent can be felt as you read each words. It was such an inspiration how such a person can raise from his downfall. Their journey towards healing and hope is an extraordinary and a sure tear jerker. Be sure to have a hanky beside you .I loved how the writer narrated it simply, yet full of emotions without overreacting. I also realized through this book that there are many things we have that we often take for granted.

Silent Storm

This is a kind of a book that will make you dare to pass any difficult obstacles. It made me feel how difficult to be blind and how more difficult to teach a blind child. That’s what Anne Sullivan; the teacher of the famous Helen Keller endured. Upon reading this you will be fascinated on how creative Anne is to be able to teach Helen effectively. It’s also like going into a blind girl’s dark world but has been lit with hope by the deep concern of the people around her .Silent Storm speaks likewise of how us privileged ones with the gift of sight can be the eyes of those who can never see the beauty of the world. And at least make them feel how beautiful it is.

The Little Woman

This is a very fun story of adventures of four sisters. No wonder it’s been a hit on cartoons and movies. Each of us can relate to the unique qualities of them. We can identify to what they feel on every trials, joy and heartaches they have been through. Their passage from childhood to womanhood is truly a real life portrayal. This is highly recommended specially for teenagers. The characters here can become our heroines.

The Bible

Everyone must own this one. It’s the manual of life. What’s really awesome about the bible is how it is accurately connected from the very beginning: Genesis, to the end: Revelations. Each biblical character faces real life problems that we similarly face. Its words are timeless. I personally was surprised that I read words that will really help you decide in times of confusion and will give you hope in times of despair. To truly know Jesus read His Word. I definitely believe just like what others have said that this is the only book whose author is always present with you. Come to think of it, it’s the bestselling book of all time. You can find it in every bookstore and in every language known. That alone proves the fact that the Word of God is a human need.

Heaven is for Real

A child named Colton narrates his journey in heaven while he was unconscious at the hospital. It was very surreal that whenever I read his description of heaven I quickly grabbed my bible and check if he was right and he was indeed. Mind you, he was just three years old then and hasn’t read the description of heaven in the Bible. It is believable and besides, a child just says what he really sees without hesitation and exaggeration. Yes, it will give you chills and also joy. Colton’s description of heaven is another glimmer of truth that there is absolutely a place where there will be no more pain, suffering and heartache.

It would be nice if the poll allowed you to pick more than one book that one has read. Voted up because there are some nice, inspirational books here. I have found that even those who do not believe can get something out of the Bible because people quote it or use it for inspiration throughout the culture.
