Times Change People Don"t

Updated on May 24, 2014

Do You Agree ?

Over the years we can see how things have become better

Using technology we have more conviences than ever

Microwaves to cook food faster

Automobiles that can reach speeds over a hundred miles an hour

Computers that connect us all over the world at any given moment

Super Walmart chain stores that provide us everything from milk to camping supplies

Higher paying jobs that give us more money to spend on any whim

The latest styles and fashions that change constantly

Medical advances that keep us living longer

Numerous religions to worship any belief

So many opportunities to live life better

Unfortunately we never learn

We show greed at every turn

Caring less for human life than ever before

With war after war to kill

Hostility and pain become common

Destroying nature and the defenseless animals

We make every attempt to gain control and power

Ripping apart our values and traditions

At any cost

We are smarter than ever before

Yet we progressively do more harm than good

Creating more laws is not the answer

Flawed thinking from the start

Adding more chemicals to our foods

That are killing our bodies slowly

Polluting our air with deadly toxins and our mind with cancer scares

Working harder than ever before

Less exercise even though more health conscious

Has proved to anyone with vision

It's a solid belief to say

We have not learned from our mistakes

Every chance we get to change we don't

Nellieanna I try to add to your day. One more smile, laugh and a hug. It takes up no space since we have enough clutter in the world. To see someone so loving and caring is such a breath of fresh air. I still try to find your energy in todays youth. So far I have come up short. Maybe I haven't tried hard enough. Five thousand young adults and still no luck. Maybe it's my attitude. I know I have to be more positive. Well I have to work on it. Until we meet again have wonderful dreams that are like light beams that cover the sky. Thank you so much.

Gypsy Rose Lee People from all over the world have to combine their thoughts to make good. Together with each others passion and drive we can see progress being made. Don't be fooled by the few who constantly complain but do nothing to help. They are a distraction and a diversion like a smoke screen. As we gain momentum and more success things will come easier than before. Nellieanna You have once again created another gem. One that I can look at and see it sparkle in the light. But now you have gone even farther yours sparkles in the dark. How nice it is to read your words as your thoughts clearly explain so much. I am loving all your comment and how it reflects upon my writing. Thank you both for reading and commenting. Have a beautiful night.

Yes, Mike, we share hope that the attitudes that prevail so generally can be upgraded. Otherwise the future looks rather dim for the human race. And for that upgrading to happen, parents & role models must show the way, and often they themselves came up with the same expectations that life should provide their wants and needs, of which they barely know the difference. If it's wanted, it's simply felt as a need for it and needs are expected to be ‘provided’ somehow.

I was just visiting a hub in which the Scottish gentleman told of his love of cooking and his mum's belief which was instilled in him that “you should be able to look after yourself, cooking and cleaning, create food from the shelf. if you could look after yourself, you never go short. Household duties you can easily sort. if you do the duty often enough,it really becomes easy not tough. Practice makes perfect,an accurate phrase. Helps you navigate life's little maze.” This gentleman’s hubsite is: http://hubpages.com/@bigj1969

We discussed this in the big picture of life’s maze and the fact that many (not all, of course) have no concept of being able to ‘make do’, to make the best of things and to make better things happen in their lives by their own efforts.

Of course we’re happy when people have ample ‘things’. In fact, it’s my belief that it is an abundant universe with plenty to go around, but greed and other factors have set it up as it has become, in which people must sometimes struggle and apply lots of personal character to the tasks of living. So it is distressing that so many have no idea of the value of what they have or notion of what they can and must personally do in the event that the source dries up. Their first reaction seems to be to bewail the misfortune, look for others to blame or to supply their lack, with little or no concept of their own responsibility to be shouldered and the privilege it is to be capable of handling things.

Yes, I’ve no doubt it was our strong parents who instilled values and sense of personal responsibility and as their kids, we didn’t always like or fully appreciate that prospect at the time. But how good to go forth with that sort of ‘emergency kit’ in our possession, knowing we could and would handle the challenges when they beset us.

Anyway as we all here seem to agree, people can change if they’ve a will to do so. We just must promote more awareness in our education system and homes of the fact that we will need to do so and must be able to, in order to survive and thrive. As you mention, also, - bad influences also abound and they always seem to be more inviting to the unwary, because they’re cloaked in the glitter that attracts the unsuspecting. We can’t eliminate that, except personally to always be the ones to influence for the good and the courageous, by example.

With you all the way. People must change their ways and look at life differently. I don't listen to all the scares anymore instead I live and enjoy and if I can help someone along the way I do.

shanmarie Many people can be influenced to change for the bad and don't see the good in life. People like to follow a crowd and do what they do. It makes them feel comfortable and safe even if they are doing things that are negative and hurt them and others. They don't always see it or care. Thank you for reading and sharing.

People can and do change. It takes individuals to change a society and to change on an individual level, people simply have to want to or they won't.

annart I am so blessed have so many freedoms and liberty's I for one will never forget.I think we all have to realize it in our own time whenever that may be. There comes a time in your life where we have to become responsible and grow up. I think when young adults show lack of respect for veterans and all they have done to give us this very precious life we live every day is the worst. They don't try to understand. They think they have all the answers. Thank you for reading and sharing. It makes me very happy.

Nellieanna Once again you can see right through to the point. I love your response. I often wonder about todays children who will soon be parents themselves one day. What examples will they set with their earrings, tattoos, pants that hang around their waste showing off their underwear and more. I was fortunate to have parents that were grounded and even though old fashioned by my standards they had strong values and beliefs. Today's young adults would rather play video games than go outside. Listen to heavy metal music or rap.Very loud and lots of swearing. They don't want to work and think the world owes them something. They think being responsible is having the latest cell phone and having their parents pay their hundred dollar cell phone bill. I am sure that does not represent all teenagers just the few that surround me. Thank you so much for reading and commenting on my writings. My love right back at ya.

This makes me think of all the war memorials which say 'Lest We Forget'; unfortunately we do! We still kill and mame and repress. Mankind has a lot to learn but I think we do make small steps of progress nonetheless. Ann

You've presented the reality and summed it up well, my friend. But it is always "A person" who is capable of changing for the better - or the worse - and never "people". Those are simply individuals who either choose a course for themselves or let themselves follow like sheep the course of least resistance, but it is ALWAYS the individual. So my thinking is that if I can be the best I can be and make changes to that end, then that is one more of the millions of individuals that make a difference. I can't make the others follow suit, but my one candle lit may show a little hope and light a step or two for someone else.

Great hub, my dear. Keep up your wonderful 'dreaming' with great spirit which really is looking at life with open eyes and keen sensitivities and willingness to contribute your own best.

HappyMikeWritter I would love to see how the majority of people change for the better. Do we have less crimes than the year before ? Have they ever closed prisons because lack of inmates ? With all arer drinking and driving laws why do we still read about people drinking and driving and taking innocent lives ?You pick up the daily paper and see violence and senseless deaths. Over the ages people have learned to change and adapt or we would of never survived. We have the potential to make life wonderful. When given a choice we still have people that are prejudice and don't believe in equal rights for all. Mankind has learned the hard way what evil people can do if given the opportunity. Hitler during World War two. The more we do good the more we find ways to hurt others. Making ourselves aware and taking steps in the right direction can prove time and time again that people are basically good. That we all can get along. Children in school don't have to bully other children. If we can teach our children they can grow up leading the good life. We all have to do our part. Thank you for reading and sharing. There is no quick answer but we can make today better than yesterday if we try.
