Tired of Those We Miss: a Poem

Val is a life-long student of the psycho-philosophy of living and a devoted practitioner of many techniques that enhance personal evolution.

Like waiting in a lineup to get some attention

sometimes we wonder how visible we are

with all relationships as in a spell of tension

and all last words as if left with a scar.

Spouses and kids and co-workers and friends

in a strange conspiracy to leave us out of game

with weird messages their acting sends

each one resembling some kind of a blame.

As if in a popularity contest our rating went down

while no one is openly saying why

and busloads of known faces just left town

with even strangers looking away while passing by.

Then suddenly we realize it's not them but us

avoiding everyone, in a need for some space

our life feeling crowded with too much to discuss

and now with this burning need to forget every face.

Not receiving attention always feels so weird

even when we don't want to get any at all

and even when we got enough of being pushed and steered

we miss those same people's presence and telephone call.
