Too Good To Be True (Limerick)

Updated on August 5, 2012

You have just received awesome news

For you have won a free house and cruise

And brand new Lexus

Can hardly believe this

Then you wake up from dream not amused

Inspiration

I am sure this is something that hits home with everyone. We have all had dreams that we thought were real. I have had numerous dreams that seem realistic. I call these moments, "The Too Good To Be True" moments.

I find myself waking up heartbroken! I rush over to the bathroom to grab a tissue(preferably Kleenex brand, because they are so soft, comfortable, gentle...all right I will stop there so I will avoid sounding like some loser who actually reviews tissue brands!). I then quickly proceed to wipe away the inevitable tears which are flooding down my cheeks!

DISCLAIMER: For those of you who are already beginning to judge me in regards to having to find a tissue and being heartbroken, I must leave you with this short disclaimer. The above scenario is not true. I have never had to grab a tissue to wipe the tears away because I thought a dream was true. But, that would be a really funny story to tell the grandchildren one day!

FUNNY

For those of you who don't me, I love to play basketball. One night I dreamt that I could dunk the basketball! I have never been able to dunk, and I have always wanted to! I remember being so happy during that dream. When I woke up the next morning, I still thought I could dunk. It took me a few minutes to realize that it was actually only a dream.

SCARY

Another dream I had which was more on the scary side(like a nightmare), was the dream when I thought my twin brother was missing. I had no idea where he was! Fortunately, when I woke up, I already knew it was a dream. This saved me from dialing 911 and yelling at the top of my lungs, waking everyone up in my quiet and peaceful neighborhood.

Thanks for sharing your dream experiences, Josh. And it's a cool limerick, as usual. Hey, my grandma dreamt of her friend in a coffin. The next day, her friend died. Creepy part was, she was laughing in the coffin! No prizes for what that means! Cool thoughts, Josh.

Awesome and Fun Limerick!!! I have had many dreams that I thought was real and the real emotions of those dreams carried throughout the day. I am actually amazed by the power of dreams.

*Patty hands a tissue to Josh* It's okay if you need it, I won't tell anyone...LOL

Haha, I really like this! It's cute!

My dreams are so vivid- and I sleep walk too. I woke up once in the middle of the street in my pajamas, and another time I woke up after I smashed my face into my mirror. I was dreaming that it was a portal and decided to try it out apparently. :P

Not too bad for 1 a.m. Josh!~ Where is Janine? Oh is too late for the regular commenters. We have had dreams and some have become true. One time we were working like 14 hours one night...suddenly we woke up tired...and we didn't get paid overtime, because it was a dream! Great limerick with your own style.

Hi Josh! what a GREAT idea! Well, we've all had the "Oh No! I'm right out here hiding behind a tree in the local park and I have NO CLOTHES ON!" Several nights ago, I dreamed that there were about 20 vultures in the big trees in my backyard...I worried that there might be an animal in distress...so I ran down to the creek to see ... just then, several of the vultures flew from one of the trees, flapping wings and making noise. I looked up to see so many of these huge carrions perched above me....I moved more quickly to the creek, scanning the whole area ...nothing to see...the big birds were just in the high tree tops drying their wings in the morning sunlight. thank goodness! Then, I woke up, relieved!!

Btw, I love your review on Charmin Toilet Tissue!

There was a young man you'd all know

Off to the bathroom he would go

      As the clock ticked

      A brand was picked

And Charmin was best for the dough

I once dreamt I could fly. (Of course, I think I was doing drugs at the time!) Great Job as always, Josh!

Josh - I hate those kinds of dreams. I occasionally still dream that I am about to go on stage to sing at the Albert Hall :o)....I always wake up just as I'm about to sing my first note....I wonder if I sing in my sleep?

Awww, poor Josh!! It's ok if you cry, even if it's for a dream...... And we don't believe all those disclaimers that you didn't need a tissue, even if it's the Kleenex brand!! I, personally, prefer the Puffs brand :)

Great limerick, as usual..... Voted up and awesome!

P.S hope the dream wasn't about the princess breaking your heart!!

There was a young fellow called Josh,

Who dreamt that he'd won lots of dosh ....

A challenge to all readers - complete this limerick :)

Personally, I do not need to dream of winning a fortune as there is a very nice Nigerian prince who keeps e-mailing me to tell me he wants to deposit millions in my bank account.

Peter Tosh of the Wailers? Would Josh be old enough to remember Peter Tosh? Admittedly, not many names rhyme with dosh :) Not a bad effort. I didn't really think anyone would do it! If a few people complete the limerick, Josh will have to pick the winner:)

Some are not really, but some are. Both of my parents were Christians. After my mother died, my father was very sad. For two years he had a sadness about him. It never left. I was visiting, the day before I left he was smiling and told me his dream. In his dream he saw my mother. She looked healthy, young and was holding her arms out to him. There was light behind her. He died that night. It was over ten years ago. I believe they are both happy now, together again.

By the way, great hub, voted up.

Josh, I dream all the time and even more so when I was younger. As child, I had my fair share of nightmares. One that I will never forget was my grandfather passing away (I was about 10 years old or so, but still remember it). Well, the next day I told my grandmother, because it upset me so much and she told that when you dream of a loved one dying it means that they will have a long life. This of course was an old wive's tale, but still it did make me feel a better at the time.

Anyway, your hub made me remember some of my dreams and that one in particular. As usual a great Hub article by you and have voted and shared too.

I really enjoyed this hub. I have vivid dreams often and it actually makes me wake up feeling more tired than I was the day before. I also have several times sat up abruptly in bed and had to take a few moments to think about if something really happened or it was a dream haha. You wake up feeling so emotionally invested that its hard to tell at first.
