To The Finishing Line
Running track, throwing shot and discuss, long jumps and so on….is like striving for a goal or success. I use to be in the track team and these has always been the speech my coach always tell us. He is a very inspirational man and taught us all to believe in ourselves. I was in the shot put and discuss team. Our coach let us try to do so many different drills and it is all hard. The hardest part of the drill is when we have to drag some hundreds pound weight while sprinting across the football field. As you all know, football field is very far and would be much more farther when we have something to drag along while sprinting. He told us by doing this, it build muscle on our legs.
For the football player, its pretty easy for them because they have done this before. As for I, beginner in Varsity, I have not done it. The weight was very heavy as we drag along the grass. We were sprinting doing high knee across the football field. Not close to half way I was tired and I fell. I got back up and run again…but each time I lift up my leg and strive, it became much more harder. So hard that my whole body was aching and I fell again. My heart was racing, I was sweating, I was tired, weaken, sore…the weather was hot as well and the heat just add to the struggle. My teammates struggle along with me. It was very difficult and get much more harder than we expect. At the beginning was very easy but for a while, it get tougher and tougher. We fall most of the time along the way across the field. Most of us give up and some made it to the finishing line. I gave up and my body slam to the ground. I lay there crying because I can’t do it anymore. My leg was to weak to move on. But my teammates who struggle with me say, don’t give up…we can do it. We all got up and start moving again. We got up and start sprinting again and I fell on my face because my knee was to weak. I couldn’t feel my knee or my leg anymore therefore I fell. I lay there on the grass and resting my head against my arm and just give up.
Half of us in the team gave up. It was too much for our body can take. Our coach still pushed us to strive, he still push us to go to the finish line. He continue to push us till we make it. But we gave up because our body was too weak to move forward.
Our coach blow his whistle and say if we all don’t make it to the finishing line we will not leave! Even if it take the whole night, he will stay till we all make it to the finish line. All of us got up, half of our other teammate that was finished inspired us to continue striving. We got up and start moving again but along the way we fall again. We sweat, cried, hurt…weak…it was too hard. I tumble and struggle along the way and I wasn’t alone. I have some other teammate of mine that are much worsen than I and struggle as much as I.
During those hours, I felt very hopeless, stress, pain, aching, struggling, tumbling, falling…just every bad things that let me lose my strength. But my coach continue to push us and force us to move our feet! I was angry with my coach because he was killing us. I turn to hate my coach and wish to yank my coach hair…but to an end, we all finally made it to the finishing line. And at that moment, all the negative thoughts that was running to my mind disappear in an instant. I was happy and did all my other teammate who struggle along with me. We gain the energy from happiness and we group hug each other. We were so happy and say “WE DID IT!” it loud.
Most of us were in tears and I fell to the ground because my knee was to weak to hold my leg. I lay there on the grass and tell my coach that I’m tired. He laugh at all of us and gave each one of us a high five! He then asked all of us to come in circle for a team meeting. He then start his talking. He said that he did this was to show us that when your striving for a goal, this is how hard it will take for us to make it to the end. If we believe in ourselves, we know we can do it even if it takes a push or a force by yourself or someone else to make it to the final destination. He also said, he was only the guidance to push and force us to strive, but the real person who willing to do this is us individually. Along the way you give up and fall, but after a push, you guys are back on your feet again and you strive. Even if your knee became weak but your hope was not. You made it to that finishing line because you have faith in yourself and you have hope.
