Today I Can't Stay Grubby

 I woke up early and tried to get everything done

I ran around and did errands and things that I normally have no time to do

Hurrying home to get lunch ready

Hopped in the shower and  feel refreshed after doing so much

I came out of the shower and sat down to lunch

Ready to go to work I made sure I had my work uniform

Off I went

I made record time

I was proud of the little accomplishments that I did that will lead some day to my lifes biggest achievements

I can relax now since I have over an hour and a half drive

I turned on the music and couldn't be happier at this moment

I just remembered we are having a meeting about changes in work

So they asked us to be there early since they frown upon employees being late

I am lucky I left early even though I forgot about the meeting

So today is my day

I suddenly see the traffic go slow

This is unexpected at this hour

Usually traffic flows pretty smooth

O.K. a little delay maybe there is an accident

I hope no one got hurt

I see an ambulance up ahead and three police cars

It looks like two no a three car accident

They have blocked all traffic

Great a detour

Now I could be late

Should I call?

No then I will look bad

Now lets not panic for nothing

Maybe the traffic will pick up

This lane is too slow

I bet if I move over one lane

It looks hopeful

I am going to make up a little time now

I should of been here about 15 minutes ago

I am passing a lot of cars who stayed in my old lane

I was smart to move over and now I have one toll and then it should be just the open highway

Whats this all the cars in this lane have stopped

The lane I moved out of is now moving again

This time cars are passing me one by one

I counted sixteen cars and nobody will let me back in

I have to get out of this lane or I will be real late

My luck went from bad to worse

When an oil truck is now going really slow

I can't pass and I can't go

All I can do is turn up the radio and blast the music to get my mind off my troubles

I tell myself to think of a way out of this

Now I am going to be at least twenty minutes late

Why do I look at the time?

Only to depress myself even further

Maybe they will run late and I will be right on time

No the last five meetings they have had this year have all been early

The guy who was late last time doesn't work here anymore

Now I have to take my mind off my troubles

Lunch was good wasn't it

I feel well rested and I did accomlish so much

I have made it through the tolls

You have to go slow this is where the police wait

I don't need a speeding ticket

 Then I will be in real trouble !!!

Oh look someone else has been pulled over

Now the traffic is going smooth

I can pick up a little speed

The speed limit is 65 miles an hour

I know I can go 70 and it shouldn't be a problem

As I was driving, the car next to me has picked up speed

I said why don't I go with them and I am just going with the flow of traffic

I try to convince myself it is alright

Another car wants to go faster and is closing in behind me

I will just pick up my speed

Now I am doing 80 that is a little to fast for me

Well I gained some time just a little bit longer

Then I will slow down to my normal speed

Oh shoot the traffic is starting to slow down

I can't come to a quick halt

I am in my own lane

There is only one car in front of me

Look over there is a police car sitting quietly

There is a police officer standing outside

Holding the speed gun out

OOOps I messed up now I was going 83

I watching him now in my rear view mirror and sure enough he is getting into his car

I should of slowed up when I had the chance

I got greedy and wanted to be early

I made up all the time and I am still a half hour away from work

I cut my speed down and now I see the bright lights coming

I see the police cruiser gaining on me

The one car behind me has moved out of their way

My heart sank lower than my gas tank

Now I will have to cut to cross over and pull my car off the road safely

It happens I got caught what can I do

Too many cars I just have to wait

As I go to change lanes and I am expecting him to follow

He changes lanes first and pulled the guy next to me over

I had this great big smile since it could of been me

I keep going and hope I learned my lesson

Never to speed when running late

It is never good and only can cause more trouble than I can ever imagine

I hope I have learned my lesson a hard one to swollow

No harm done

I think the police got the wrong man

He was behind me and I was going so much faster

Thats the breaks and I got a big one

Oh I don't believe it

How could I forget to shave

How stupid was I

I usually do it in the morning but because I left early I forgot

I sometimes carry an extra razor in the car

Not this time I cleaned out the car and never put it back

Now I have no shaving cream or razor

I am batting about 1,000 and my average bites it

I have to stop somewhere and grab a package of razors and some shaving cream

I go to look in my wallet and I only have three dollars

You have got to be kidding me

I don't have a charge card on me

Since I changed my wallets

I didn't make it to the bank to take some extra money out

I figured I would do it later because I need som gas too

I look down and my gas gage is very low

Almost in the red

They say you have 5 miles even if it goes into the red

I haven't got much farther to go

Thw red gas gage just went on

I can't believe this

I will ride it out

Come on car use the fumes if you have to

I know where there is a dollar store and I can pick up a cheap package of razors and some shaving cream

I MIGHT JUST PULL IT OFF

I rush out into the store and look around

I find what I came in for and so far so good

Now I am in line and six people away

The first person has some trouble with their card

I am dead in the water

I gave it a college try

I take a deep breath and then a sigh

A new register opening up I am in luck

No the three people behind me hurried over

God is making me pay for speeding earlier

All of a sudden there is a light at the end of the tunnel

The guys transactions finished and the person infront of me

Said thats all you have you can go

I said thank you, thank you

I couldn't thank him enough

I raced out of there and into my car

I don't have anytime to hit the bathroom in work

I can shave here using the rear view mirror

But I need some water

I have a bottle of water from last week I didn't finish

I pour it on my face

I used an old shirt to catch any spillage

I use the shaving cream and razor

I did pretty good only a few cuts on my chin and neck

Those cheap razors make you bleed everytime

Now with another look I have cut myself a total of 9 times

I used another part of the old t-shirt to stop the bleeding

That will have to do

I looked at the clock with only three minutes left and then I will be late

I don't see a parking spot

No wait a car is pulling out

I run inside and I see everyone standing around

Did the meeting start earlier than I expected ?

I punched in and I have a minute on the time clock to spare

Why is everyone breaking up?

The meeting was cancelled and we can all go to work now

I made it and no meeting just my luck

The day started out lucky and ended with me all cut up
