"Today is Tomorrow" by Eric Wayne Flynn

"Today is Tomorrow"

That is what I was

That is what I am

What is that I was

I am just a man

A mind

A body

A soul

A tragedy

Waiting to happen

To us, by us

For we who live today

Die for tomorrow

Alone in caves

Dwelling on projections

Art, stuck to the walls

Climbing them

Crazy

To get a better look

A different perspective

A better objective

Than just living for the day

The new flick

The new phone

The new message

The new lie

The same old story

For we live today so we buy

As they sell us the sun

Disposing of it as quick as it comes

Watching it fall

Watching it fade

Watching it go

Away

On the other side

We sit in the cold

Wondering where it went

Why it had to leave

Why we had to say

Ah, fuck it

Let us live for the day

For we all feel there is no tomorrow

For it is we who made it this way

For it is we who are sold

The idea

The concept

The consumption of our truest selves

Leftover hearts on a shelf

On a mantle

Something to look at

A conversation piece

Look, but don't touch

A touchy subject, covered in blood

We can't even recognize them

As we sit on our bear skin rug

By the fire

Thinking of ways to keep lying to each other

Sharing our nights

Sharing our days

A few billion secrets in the dark

Separated by lack of sight

A lack of vision

Stop living for the day

So for that our tomorrow can be

A deep breath

A sigh of relief

A fresh start

A tragedy avoided

Wow! This was beautiful. I loved the truth in this poem. We are living for today and the next new thing only to have it become extinct by tomorrow. My favorite part is the ending. To stop living for today for tomorrow can be a new day, a fresh start a tragedy avoided. Voted up.. shared.. and must put this on my facebook and tweet. Thanks for sharing this piece Eric..it is amazing work.

Thanks Jodah, I love that there are people like ourselves who feel this certain way and have a forum to express it. We have great challenges as a race, for today is tomorrow, and as we start acting that way it will solidify our words and talk, in which I know you practice what you preach and I am in the process.
