Toy Soldier, a poem

Updated on October 23, 2012

Look at the young soldier,

He just graduated.

Doesn't he look dashing

In his pressed uniform

Showing the shiny brass ?

Look at the proud soldier,

He's shipping out to war.

Ready to kick some butt

And shoot his ennemies.

For it's kill or get killed.

Feel for the sad soldier,

His best friend died today.

Killed in action, they say.

But fear won't go away,

And drinking will not help.

Pray for the tough soldier,

His killing skills now honed,

But time's taking its toll

On a too young warrior.

Wondering why he's here.

Weep for the dead soldier

Who just got killed today,

His body's coming home

Wrapped in red, white and blue.

His nation lost a brave.

My mother lost a son.

Stand up for the soldier,

As they fire the salute.

They say they won't forget,

How much of it is true ?

For so many like him

Died for no good reason.

Dust to dust ! Handful of dirt,

I threw on your casket...

How can I honor you,

Better than by saying

How much I do miss you,

My beloved kid brother...
