Trauma (Poem)

Updated on April 5, 2016

Let me be, just let me be

If I can’t understand then don’t let me see,

I’m fine, I used to be,

Now let me be, please let me be,

Let me escape, let me forget,

Spare me from this pain and regret,

The bane of a lone heart is too much to bear,

Too much shame for no one will care,

Let me be, just let me be,

If I can’t understand then don’t let me see,

Take me back to my home where all will be gone,

Take this away! A moon is nothing without a sun,

Let me escape, let me forget,

Spare me from this pain and regret,

Once was too much of a fright,

The second time around killed my peace at night,

Let me be, just let me be

If I can’t understand then don’t let me see,

Let’s build the walls higher lest your heart be in vain,

Give it no more chances, stop leaving blood stains.

I hear and feel the anguish to escape and forget. Painful but expressed beautifully.

Powerful words, a poignant sting at the end. Very well-done expression of trauma and its ever-lasting negative impacts on the soul. Thank you for sharing.
