Tribute to an Old Dog

Old fellow, you and I have been here through thick and thin,

I remember so well when yours and my being pals to begin.

Brought you home as just my little pup, all brown and furry,

Your most favorite bone, you used to dig up and then bury.

When you got older, we used to go out and hunt rabbits,

As hard as I tried, couldn't break you from the bad habits.

You'd want to keep the grub all for yourself, not to share,

When I got you to chase rabbits, the occasion was rare.

As time moved on, you and I got slower, old in the tooth,

Your runs in the field were shorter, not as in your youth.

Times we spent together, my friend, I hoped not to end,

They did one day, you passed away, my prayers to send.

the old home place where we used to live and hunted...

Thank you for the double header. I liked the poem.

I relate to your words being so close on the heels of losing my Walker Beagle, Elliot.

But also your art work. Well done! Pastels? Reminds a folk art show I attended while at Auburn University in Alabama.

      Thank you, Whonu- Peace

Hey, Greg. Glad you liked my tribute to a pup. My art work is acrylic. Occasionally I stray to a different media. Thanks for stopping by. Blessings. whonu

It's never easy losing a pet. We build a bond laced with fond memories that live on for eternity. You've immortalized your furry friends with not only words, but paint to canvas.

      Beautiful, my friend.
