Two Hens in the Henhouse

Updated on March 3, 2011
Source

Two hens in the hen house
don't usually fly.
For the rooster's affections
they ceaselessly vie.
Feathers stay ruffled,
The hens peck and scratch,
Both are determined
his affections to catch.
The rooster convinced
of his charming allure...
Struts all about, his
conquest quite sure.
Though the hens cluck and clatter
to compete for first place,
both preen and prance
in hot rooster chase,
The confident rooster
each morn crows, not shy
cause he knows that two hens
in the hen house don't fly.

sweetabaca, if they are comments left on your hubs, they should be posted at the bottom of the page on your hubs...if they are fan mail comments, you go to your accounts page, click on

activities, and in the box on the left hand side, click on fan mail.

Thank you, Sunnie. I had the good fortune of spending about a year on the farm, a couple of years ago and this little write is the result of my keen observations in the hen house!

I can just imagine that rooster strutting about and those two hens just like the girls in school looking for the boys' attention. I love it.

I am not a great fan of poetry, I think mostly I don't have a poetic sense at all. But this was fun and makes an interesting statement as well. Thank you for sharing.

Humble thanks, PA! This little poem inspired an idea for a comedy play that rolls around in my little brain...lol...a brain egg, if you will...I can see it all in my head, just not sure how to create the humor and wit, along with conflict, and then a huge surprising twist! But it is a work in progress, much as I am! Again, thanks!

Very cute poem, the kind I enjoy most. Roosters remind me of my grandmother who raised both chickens and roosters most of her life.
