Types of Psychic Abilities

When someone proclaims they are psychic, what exactly are they saying? I think most people think that if a person has a psychic ability that they know everything. Not so. There are many different psychic talents and most people who are blessed with a special psychic ability don’t possess all of them. I think separating the talents helps to keep psychics humble and honest. After all, if all psychics did know everything, it would be too easy for them to use their talents for their own self interest and they’d all be rich. So, if you have a talent such as seeing auras around people and things, that necessarily mean you to can predict what is going to happen in the future.

Here’s a list of the various psychic talents that have been documented.

Animal Telepathy – The ability to communicate with various kinds of animals. These people are labeled at “Pet Psychics.” They claim the ability to know what animals are feeling. This one is very difficult to test scientifically.

Astral Projection - The ability to leave one's body and travel in spirit to another location. This is also known as Out of Body Experience (OBE). People who have this ability have actually been seen by others while projecting themselves to other places.

Aura Reading - The ability to see the energy fields that emanate from living beings. I have known people who have this ability and who have used it to diagnose diseases. It’s a shame all doctors haven’t perfected this talent. I have been told that the color purple in a person’s aura will indicate an area of disease.

Automatic Writing -The ability to write through the subconscious mind without conscious thought, or through guided writing from the unknown. People who have claimed to possess this talent have written books and have proclaimed the information came from someone who has already passed on. The Seth books are an example of an author proclaiming to use automatic writing. Channeling - Associated with mediums, this is the ability to act as a channel or vessel for an outside intelligence, from a life form that is no longer of the Earthly dimension. Many mediums have spirit guides who talk through them while in a trance state.

Clairaudience - Someone with this ability could be a thousand miles way and "hear" a loved one's cry of distress. This is the ability to hear things that are outside the normal hearing range. This can be persons who have passed on or a spirit guide. A famous Clairaudient is John Edwards.

Clairvoyance - A person with this type of ability can see things not apparent to others, like receiving a vision of events or a visual impression about a person. This ability is often combined with psychometry. An example would be shaking hands with someone and seeing something about them that the clairvoyant could not have known about otherwise.

Clairsentience - This is the ability to receive impressions that are more feeling in nature. Psychics associated with this ability are called empaths because they can feel the emotions of others.

Divination - A broad term that includes fortune telling, precognition, prophesy, and other methods used in an effort to predict the future.

Dowsing - Also known as "water witching", dowsing involves the use of a rod, sticks, or pendulum to locate water or lost objects. Dowsing Rods are also used in paranormal investigations to communicate with spirits. However, one does not have to necessarily have a psychic talent to use dowsing rods.

E.S.P. - Extra Sensory Perception is the awareness of information about events that are not gained through the normal five senses and not deducible from previous experience. Test subjects have been able to “see” shapes on cards in other rooms.

Hiero- Automatic painting or drawing. The graphic version of automatic writing. Intuition - The power or faculty of attaining direct knowledge or cognition without rational thought or inference. Just about everyone has this ability, but most don’t listen to it.

Levitation - The ability to cause one's body to hover off the ground. One of the more well-documented cases of levitation involved St. Theresa of Avila during the 16th century.

Medium -A person who channels information from an entity that is no longer in the Earth dimension. Some people report that they can not only channel information from people who have passed, but also from alien beings. Precognition/ Prophesy – The ability to predict the future. Knowing/seeing thing that will happen in a future time. Psychometry – The ability to gain information about a person by touching something belonging to them, as a ring or watch. Also known as "object reading," psychometry enables a psychic to pick up on psychic impressions (vibrations) left on an object by someone connected with it.

Pyrokinesis - The ability to start fires with one's mind. (Like Steven King’s Fire Starter) This ability is extremely rare.

Psychokinesis/ Telekinesis – The ability to move objects with the mind. Uri Geller is an example of a psychic who was able to bend spoons by using the power of this mind. His true ability has been under question, however. Remote Viewing -to be able to see, describe a person, place or thing without being in their presence.

Telepathy - The ability to communicate mind-to-mind with another. To communicate without speaking or writing.

Trans-Medium Channel -a consciousness enters into the human being and communicates through that person.
