"Under the Iron Fist"

Walking on egg shells

Under suburban rule

Tipsy; tip toeing in the night

Drunk on the moon

A battle for the ages between blood resumes

The old hound; sensing something a foot, rises from slumber

The young pup; sneakily dancing and dodging creaky boards memorized in recon, strikes a pose

Undetected; he hears the stream of the ruler against the throne

Flushed cheeks in the kitchen, bare assed in the bath, the ruler finishes his business

The din of a squeaky hinge in suburbia reveals the ruler with staff in hand

Scratching his head he spots the youth

Parentally paralyzed, frozen in blue moonlight; he surrenders

Accepting the weight that will come with the morning

Son versus father, father versus son, a fight, a call to arms

A lifetime war of preparation for the coldest winters, the hardest truths and the devil that lay within all men and within their very blood

No man will bring the other more fear than what each possesses for the other

Distorted mirror images in a haunted house, reflecting ghosts of the past, present and future

Scared till death that they just might be one in the same

Eye to eye they meet, challenging, dog ready to eat dog

Love, respect and admiration boiling in their chests

Understanding; left for a cold day on the battlefield when the white flags have been waved and all the battles fought

A toast, to all those raised under the iron fist

Smacks of battlefield memories of a scout. Nicely and succinctly juxtaposed and a fine conclusion; thanks, Eric, another fun and provocative work. :-D
