Book Review of Unearthly by Cynthia Hand
Unearthly by Cynthia Hand is a fiction novel that is about supernatural beings living on the Earth. Clara is just a girl that has a vision. That is, a vision that was sent to her by God and tells her that she has a purpose to fulfill. Clara is an angel-blood. Her mother is half angel and she is one quarter angel. Each angel-blood has a purpose to complete that comes to them in a vision. When Clara receives her vision, her and her family must move to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Here Clara and her brother find people that are vastly different from those they knew in California. More importantly, Clara finds the boy that she sees in her vision, bringing her one step closer to fulfilling her purpose. Clara must discover what her vision really means, without jeopardizing her high school social life, her family relationships, and the life of the one she loves.
This book is a very good read. The characters are high school students and so it is an appropriate age range for the thoughts and actions of many of the characters. However, there are times when the actions of the characters do not fit in with their personalities. These occurrences are often dull aspects of the book and are unnecessary for the plot development. The book has character depth, great plot development, and will keep you guessing on what will happen next. I recommend this book to those interested in teen fantasy and romance novels. The teenage girls will love this one for sure!
