Unimaginable: What Is It About This Word That Makes Us Click
If I Had a Dollar For Every Time
Picture this, you're scrolling through social media, or perhaps the subject lines in your emails, and you see some headline that makes your eyes squeal to a virtual stop and makes your finger hover over the left button on the mouse.
The word that gets me, practically every time I see it, is the world unimaginable.
Or, the words you'll never believe this.
To Be Continued
It reminds me of the times that I watched a show on television. Was completely immersed in the story, the climax was almost there. And then, three words appeared on the screen in front of my eyes.
To be continued
There is nothing more disappointing than to read the words to be continued when you are watching a show The next thought is WHAT? When will I find out.
Yep. That's the key here. Finding out. Learning. Knowing the final outcome. The answer. The key.
It's that apple dangling in front of the horses nose. It moves us to reach forward, to move on. It moves us to think about the next sentence. It makes us yearn for more.
Yearning. It's a terrible feeling to yearn for the truth and the answer. Almost desperate. That is what these provocative advertisements do to us. It is a torture to our minds to need to click to resolve the unknown.
