Unspoken (a poem)

Updated on December 25, 2011

Alone

Source

Days are spent

waiting to hear

just a word or two

about how you are

where you’ve been.

Sadness covers me

devastation my only claim

to what was,

I tell myself to move on.

The time went slowly

but I continued

forgot the past

made reasons for your absence

where no knowledge was found.

Just when I’ve traveled

through the toughest part

gathered the strength

picked up the pieces

fortified my walls,

you reappear.

What’s to be gained

by starting it all up again

to do this dance of closeness

that always leaves me alone?

Weary from the efforts

of all the times before

I can’t believe

or understand your words.

As you fill the air

with pleas and reasons

of promises delayed

declarations that run counter to your ways,

what you’ll never see

is how hard it is for me

to feel the same

to be so close

with abandonment a nagging reminder

of the truth

that you will hurt me.
