Section I: Self-Publishing Platform: Article Writing and Blogging
Blogging and Article Writing have become very popular in recent years. Basically, authors produce and publish articles/blogs through a site. There is no need to create your own website and this is a very easy way to get published online for free. Authors are paid a revenue share from the Ads that are displayed within their content. This is often the best way to get started writing online.

How does this strange website get twice as many hits as Bloomberg.com?
HubPages.com
HubPages has been live since its launch in August 2006 and has been growing ever since. HubPages has an interesting History as the team started off in a garage in Berkeley,Ca.
HubPages experiences more than 25 million visitors per month! As the company's online presence expanded, so did its team. What began with just 3 guys in a garage has now expanded to nearly 30 employees and is expected to continue to grow in the future.
Earning money on HubPages is generated through several ad programs including the eBay Partner Network, Google Adsense, Amazon Associates Program, and the HubPages Earnings Program. Refer to the links in the right margin to learn more about each Affiliate Program in greater detail, including how to sign-up as an Affiliate. HubPages offers several contests each year and selected authors receive cash prizes.
When Google updated its search algorithmin 2011, many writers on HubPages experienced a drastic change in traffic patterns and there was a lot of hysteria. HubPages responded quickly by making many changes on its own site including switching users to their own sub-domains so that each author and article stood alone instead of collectively as a group. They also tweaked a few other things and made sure to bring in quality writers by setting a higher set of standards for joining the community.
With all said and done, HubPages bounced back tremendously and actually fared better than before Panda. That's the kind of people that operate HubPages. I know because I had the opportunity to meet some of the staff personally at a HubCamp in Boston, MA. HubCamps are meetings that take place with members of the HubPages staff and are a fun, instructional experience for those who are able to attend.
The Community on HubPages is like no other online community on the web. HubPages has strict guidelines to ensure the quality of authors. Users must be at least 18 years of age, and violence, excessive profanity, nudity and other undesirable topics are all prohibited from HubPages. HubPages is a safe online community of writers that share similar interests.
HubPages has a Questions area where users can post questions and get answers from the community. Many community members are experts and provide detailed answers to the question. If an answer is wrong or misleading, users can vote the answer down or flag it and it will be removed insuring the most accurate results.
HubPages also has an extensive library of articles in the help section called the HubPages Learning Center. There is a lot of information to help the author get started on how to set-up your account, getting started, and making money.
Site Features:
- An in-depth Learning Center filled with useful "Official" Articles
- An Awesome Community of writers with similar interests
- Multiple Ad Programs with great Residual Income Opportunities
- Site Search Capabilities
- Forums
- Contests
- A great site to start as a new Freelance Writer

Squidoo.com

Squidoo calls their articles "Lenses" making reference to the focusing of a camera lens. Squidoo was launched in 2005 and saw early success. Squidoo uses Amazon and eBay Affiliate Programs to monetize their site. Squidoo is know for making large donations to charity. Squidoo is a close competitor to HubPages.

Do You Have Attractive Blogs?
Do You Use Blogger or WordPress?
WordPress
WordPress is the most popular Content Management System (CMS) and is different from other blogging sites in that it allows users to create their own background template for a more personalized look. WordPress was released in 2003.
There is some confusion between WordPress.com and WordPress.org. WordPress.com is a site that hosts blogs and WordPress.org provides software (free) that allows plug-ins and themes that the .com site doesn't. Click Here for an in-depth comparison.
WordPress does not allow ads in the same way that the other sites mentioned do but there are ways to add them through plug-ins.
YouTube Video Service
YouTubeis a Video Publishing site where you post videos and can earn loyalties from Google Adsense. This is a great tool for an online writer. If you make "How-To" articles you can use the YouTube service to literally "show" what you know. Many online authors make videos and add them to their webpage or blog. It is a great way to show what you can't tell!

Section V: Individual Agents Accepting Queries
Be sure to visit each site as submission rules are specific for each Agent/Agency.
Some Agents focus on a particular genre and have very specific methods for submission.
The Literary Agency Field is a constantly changing platform. Agents often stop taking Queries when they receive to many submissions and often times, they also change what they are looking to publish.
You may want to ask the agent some questions once they accept your Query.
Some things to consider are asking them how long they have been an agent, why they wanted to become an agent, and how do they rate their experience.
If they want to consider getting your book published, ask them what about your writing caught there interest. This will help you keep focused in the future should you maintain a prosperous relationship with the agent.
You may also ask them if they recommend particular Editors and if they have a relationship with them.
You may want to ask the author for suggestions regarding revisions and editing your material.
Being open and honest will alleviate any discomfort in your relationship with an agent. They are there to represent you and you are there to produce quality work.
If you have a good relationship with your agent, you are more likely to get published and keep an on-going relationship and success in the future.
Remember, Agents are people too!
