Walking On Thin Ice.

Updated on November 19, 2009

Walking On Thin Ice.

He found her under the ice,
in the small lake that bordered their backyard,
20 minutes after she fled from his tirade,
about not wanting to live with her anymore.
He followed her staggered footsteps in the snow,
when he realized she was gone too long
for such a cold day outside,
as well as inside his heart.
The winter sun captured her perfection
frozen in the wonder of death,
near the hole she broke in the ice,
on her journey from not wanting
to live without him.
Her hands were pressed against
the frigid lid of her watery grave,
as if in understanding
that she could not turn back
and her eyes betrayed the deep regrets
of her far too early passing.
