Water In The Hole

Updated on April 10, 2014

Not People

I am not sure about that

I have a sump pump that works wonders

My pump is never thought of all year

It sits quietly in a bucket in the corner of my cellar

Almost hidden because it is half way under the cement floor

Dry as can be

When we have lots of rain or when the snow melts

It is a great thing

It can get pretty wet around here if both happen at once

It jumps into action like a super hero with no name

The Wonder Pump

Faster than a cat

Noisier than a handful of chickens

It works and keeps working until it's job is done

Pumping out water across the yard to a 5 by 5 foot hole

Where it fills up and later drains into the ground

We can't control mother nature but we can ask her to be a little more kind

Just a little at a time instead of too much at once

When the water level reaches a certain height the pump goes on

Then the water is pumped to an underground pvp pipe

The beautiful water is wished away

There are times like now when there is too much water and the pump goes and goes

The water needs a little help along

So I go out in my yard and take a bucket and bucket by bucket scoop up some

Carry the water to another area of my yard away from the house

Well La

Everyone is happy

I pour the water under my trees or bushes

Thinking they must be thirsty too

Then there are the times that I walk to close to the edge

Can you guess what happens next ?

I fall in

First my leg then my arm

Swim anyone ?

The water is cold and I decided that's enough for one day

I am going in to dry off and get a warm shower instead

Alls well that ends well

Even if you are all washed up

So those of you that have a pump and it's working

Keep a close eye and watch the water disappear

Now I want to put in a good word in

To thank the pump makers for doing a good job

Have a dry day

Gypsy Rose Lee It's on it's way. Any amount of water no problem. You can put those boots away. Thank you for sharing and having a little fun in the rain at the same time.

Hats off to the sump pump and send it on to me. With the spring rains a huge puddle forms right under our gate and there is such a problem getting in and out. Rubber boot time.

Jodah I have to laugh. Few people would admit when water gets the best of them. The pump still working and I am still taking buckets of water out of the hole. Good exercise because I get to do lots of bending and lifting. Thanks for the comment and reading my strange out of the ordinary hubs too Have a very good night.

This is the first tribute to a sump pump I have read on hub pages Dream On, so well done. I hope you are all dry and warm now.
