We All Fall Down

Updated on May 2, 2013

When I was high

you always came around

to ride the wave,

pick up my residuals.

Now I am down

and you no longer come around,

moved on to find

a brighter star

within a sea of darkness.

On my climb

I struggle and fight

to reach the top

a vision come true.

At times

I cry

for a helping hand

only to hear

the still of the night.

Amongst the crowd

I am all alone

within the traffic

my mind is still.

Driven by time

I see victory near

over time

life always comes back around.

Don’t worry

no need to stop

and see me well

or provide false compliments.

Faith saw me through

a treacherous path

full of detours and distractions

detractors and naysayers.

If you fall down

I will lend a hand

but don’t try to speak

your words no longer matter.

What a very relevant poem - I'm sure most people can relate to this. I was struck by the middle stanza :

      "Amongst the crowd

      I am all alone

      within the traffic

      my mind is still."

Most problems or issues have a turning point from which things begin to change, maybe get better ... and I think if we can recognise that point, our minds are indeed still as they have to be to change direction.

Thank you for sharing this thought-provoking poem. In life we have our good and bad times. Both have their right.

There is always ups and downs in life @travmaj, nothing bad will last forever.

@Sparklea neat that you have diaries from age 11. Thanks so much for the kind comments as always.

"Over time life always comes back around" - that really nailed me, and it is so true.

I have kept diaries since age 11, and there is so much that has happened to me that I have forgotten. It is bittersweet to read these entries I wrote so long ago...but it is also a paradox: journaling ties a ribbon around memories.

Loved your ending, and I voted up and useful for this very enlightening hub.

Thank you for sharing your heart. I am sure many who read this can also relate. Blessings, Sparklea :)

Well said - life is so full of highs and lows and dealing with them is difficult. I particularly like the last stanza of your poem - the reality that in a future you would help out but on your terms. Thank you

Sometimes it helps to heal when we write about these things.

I like it. I choose to read it with no bitterness. Just reality.
