We Are Accountable

Every creature is important, members of the Wheel of Life, vital parts,

Born upon this earth for a reason, to be listed upon the living's charts.

Never should anyone take the precious breath of any lives in danger,

Eradication of a total species, of this planet's scope, is a rule changer.

Population, less than 500,000 in North America.

Our own creator, God in heaven above us, put us here, each is to stay,

Only responsible ones to oversee our demise, is ourselves, every way.

Tomorrow, another story in the works, because of the greedy, the jerks,

The controlling factor is money, the bottom line, just who gets the perks.

population about 90,000. and declining.

The gentle birds, those feathered ones with such beauty, revealed,

Many are doomed and every day are slaughtered, fates so sealed.

Poisoned by the chemical contents poured on crops and in the soil,

The birds, the ones responsible for flight, our inspiration, go to spoil.

African Crested Crane, less than 100,000 population.

Ducks, geese, wild birds of the forest, all are important in their order,

This world is a sanctuary for all life, every spirit of the wild to honour.

The smallest mammals, squirrels, rabbits, racoons, beaver, to revere,

Our devotion to each one's preservation, our stewardship, so sincere.

Because of the destruction of trees, the main habitat, the population is decreasing every year. Many of their basic foods are depleted and disappearing.

We, as a people are accountable, in charge, preventing the insurmountable,

There is still valuable time to save our beloved animals, to be commendable.

Brought to the public's attention, this poems intention, reasons, so justifiable.

Now is the time, not tomorrow or later, to address, our ignoring, unforgivable.

Due to pollution of natural water sources, many wild fowl are dying off in today's world.

This is close to my heart. While I volunteer for an animal emergency rescue hotline for native animals, I feel overwhelmed by all the hunting and needless killing of our animals. I want it all to STOP. I'm glad you wrote a poem about the loss of our wildlife so that others can be reminded of what is happening. Thank you whonunuwho.

Awesome. We fall short of the dominion and stewardship responsibilities bestowed upon us. I just love the accountability notion.

Thank you, Eric. The times are changing. We have got to help make all aware what needs to be done before it is too late. Blessings my friend, whonu.

Thanks for the call to be responsible and accountable. Respect for the creature equals respect for the Creator.

      Thank you for this piece.

I live on Big Pine Key, FL and here on the island we have the endangered Key Deer roaming freely up and down the lanes, and in our yards. These small deer are found only here in the lower Keys, predominately here. They have no fear of our species, though recently 173 have been put down because of a disastrous natural occurrence. Screw Flies have once again come back. The streets, normally alive with our precious deer, have been fairly deserted these past six months or so.

Thanks again for a work dedicated to the endangered.

      Peace- ggz

Whonu, this poem speaks volumes. I love that you included photos and gave statistics to really drive the point home.

      Well done, my friend!

Thank you, Shauna and I'm so glad that many agree that we have to make a stand against the killing off of the species. Not only by poisoning, but by shooting many. Blessings to you and family. whonu
