The Fear of Greatness!

Dear Lord, Thank You for waiting on me to return to the path that you've hand-woven for me. Fear of Greatness compelled me to detour from my destiny. As I re-routed my steps, I endured surpluses of heartache and pain, which led me back to you. As I surrender, I ask that you order my steps in your word.

How many times have we heard this inspirational quote?:

"With great power comes great responsibility"_From the Spiderman Movies

I believe this quote sums up the main reason why we run from greatness!

It's understandable when you're a Super-Hero and everyone's counting on you to save the day. But this is reality and the only being that closely resembles a Super-Hero is God. In fact, He's the Hero of All Heroes!

For us mere mortals, there's too much at stake when we truly embrace our full potential. We can't blame anyone else for our failures. We can't hide behind said failures as a reason to not accomplish our dreams. We can't punk out once we've started because: we'd let ourselves down and everyone who helped us along the way. We'd shame our present and curse our future!

Lastly, there's too much responsibility attached to being great. When you achieve greatness, you also achieve power. Not too many powerful beings can be: just, humble, ethical, wise, moral and righteous at the same time. Most times than not, sacrifices must be made to maintain that power. Sadly, those six invaluable characteristics are rejected in the process. This is why God must be present in our lives; for His word will surely remind us of our truth! More importantly, it will remind us and our enemies of who God is!

The sorrows that we face in life prepare us for greatness within. The more hate and betrayal we face, the greater we will be! The more tears we shed, the more pure in heart we become; for those tears cleanse us from the wickedness within. The longer we wait out our storm, the more resistant we will be for the next one. However, it is not human strength that delivers us but divine strength from Christ.

Philippians 4:13: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Upon reflection, I've realized that God places the great ones in the worst situations; for we truly need Him and only Him to bring us through them. The more we trust in Him, the more He strengthens us in the present, for the future. He knows how much burden to bestow upon us for He is our Creator. This is why you and your neighbor have different struggles; for what you can handle, your neighbor can't and vice versa. Never envy anybody else for what you think you know!

He created us for a purpose and that is to glorify Him in all things. This is why you and your neighbor have different life lessons/missions to achieve during your days here on Earth.

I Love this quote!

I recently asked a friend of mine a question:

"Do you know if anybody who has endured all of my woes, collectively?"

They responded with a slight shake of the head, indicating a "No!" I kid you not, I've truly been through some horrible situations. Yet, God saw favor in me to save me! If it weren't for His Grace and Mercy, I wouldn't be able to remember my name...let alone spell It!

Recently, I mentioned on here about being labeled "different" and "special." Normally, these adjectives are major disses and not positive compliments. However, the labels given to me deviates from the expected meanings.

Here are some examples of what I mean:

A previous co-worker referred to me as "different" while conversing with her husband. Smiling, she continued speaking to him as if to admonish him. I got the sense that she was chastising him for expecting me to be common but I'm far from!

A friend of mine, that have come and gone, referred to me as "special."

Her exact words were, "You are a beautiful, talented and special woman."

Our time was brief yet, it seemed like the bond was strong. She was so cool and I truly appreciated her taking me under her wing. It's very flattering to inspire someone to say such things about you in such a short time.

Another previous co-worker seemed to swoon over my voice stating, "Ooh, you look how you sound; you sound so good!"

Can anybody tell me what the hell that means?

This woman would often insist that I'd visit her home. When I'd decline, she'd get upset! Now, I'm a straight woman so this behavior was very odd. I didn't get the impression that she was interested in me romantically, yet what the heck could've have been?

Any takers?

I've been put on unimaginably high pedestals without any kind of explanation. It's no wonder how and why I felt extremely overwhelmed by these expressions.

These examples and more are what compelled me to runaway from the greatness within! I tragically lacked self and didn't see what they saw. It scared me!

Commentary on Spiritual Gifts

The gift of writing such Hubs like this surely comes from Him!

Each one of us has been blessed with at least one gift to share with the world. In fact, some of us have many gifts. These gifts are meant to glorify our Father in Heaven. Please, don't waste them!

It's my belief that these gifts are how we withstand the troubles that come and go. We are to use these gifts to help ourselves and others achieve greatness!

As a Pastor once said,

"By helping you, I'm helping me and mine. In this way, we all come up!"_paraphrased by me.

No matter our gift(s), we all have important roles to play. Humanity needs us more than ever to answer our calling.

Imagine if each one of us discovered, embraced and shared our gifts. Then there wouldn't be a need for the internet to connect us. We would be literally connected through Christ. This connection would be free and never cease. Now, imagine all of the miraculous works that we as a whole could accomplish...beautiful vision isn't it!

Well, anything is possible but it all starts with you! Focus on God, not your fears. He will reveal who you are in due time. Just allow yourself to see, think, live and hear spiritually. Move when He says move. Be still when He prompts you. Speak when He instructs you. And lastly, be silent when He tells you to. I'm sure this one is the hardest of all. Believe me, I know!

So much truth here. It's through the messes of our lives he shapes us into useful vessels. Our household is going through a huge health trial right now and in the midsts of it all God's presence is here and He is speaking and teaching. He's a good, good Father. :)

You shared some wonderful lessons here, PoetikalyAnointed. Yes, I feel God does want you to share his message in hubs like this. I think I do it too in my writing but perhaps in a less direct way.

It is true though that many of us fear attaining greatness because of the extra responsibility it brings.

I truly believe this statement you made; "God places the great ones in the worst situations; for we truly need Him and only Him to bring us through them."
