We Were Best Friends
What happened to us?
We used to know each other so well.
Now I don’t know you at all.
We used to talk for hours and hours,
But then you moved away.
We stopped talking
Except for when we’re both in town.
Then it’s all enthusiasm from you.
“I miss you!” You say
But we both know you’re lying.
We both know it’s just convenient.
To have a friend in a place we both hate.
It’s simple. It’s sick, it’s sad.
We use each other,
And neither of us minds anymore.
I wish we still knew each other.
I wish we hadn’t grown apart.
I wish I could say we’ll always be Best Friends.
I can’t, and I won’t.
I would be lying to myself.
