Weather Watch

"Tornado watch for Florida",
the weather man declared.
We were a tad bit wary but
no one was that scared.
The air outside was heavy,
oppressive to the skin...
but, otherwise, there was no sign
of weather moving in.
But that is how it goes here,
things can change right fast...
One minute there is sunshine
that is blown away in blast.
As I sat inside today,
I heard a great commotion...
took a peek outside the door
and there I found great motion.
The wind was whipping all about
and ice balls pierced the air,
some the size of golf balls
hit and bounced around out there!
Big old trees were waving
as if to say goodbye...
and now we were real nervous
that those limbs were gonna fly!
It lasted but a short time
in minutes it was done...
Mother Nature put us on alert
as she had her some fun...
The water in the pool has grown
the level up two inches
the air outside had cooled a bit
and ceased its grabby cinches.
Tornado watch is over
at least it is, today...
More weather in the wings, it seems...
Tomorrow's another day!

Wow. Sounds like a tumultuous day, to say the least.

I thought it was always sunny in Florida. At least it was with all the Flipper episodes I remember....

A fun weather related rhyme - I love it...

Drove through a hurricane one August on my way to Florida, it was not fun. I do not envy people that live there year round with all the weather you have to endure. Enjoyed your poem!

bbnix, I used to watch Flipper!!!My brain seems to be stuck in rhyme mode...it's driving me nuts! But this was a good opportunity to display the pics I took anyways! Thanks!

Just Ask Susan, I guess it doesn't matter where one lives, there is always something to "endure"...I am dreading hurricane season myself! Thanks for your visit!

Ah tnderhrt23, we don't get this sort of weather here but my heart goes out to anyone caught up in it's wake.

My daughter was in Oz, near Brisbane, during the recent cyclones and floods and I was beside myself with worry till she got back safely.

Great pics and awesome hub :-)

Wow! You could write a poem about DIRT, Hee Hee, Loved it. I spent around seven winters in Leesburg Fla. and i saw this kind of weather, scary.

Ice balls - never seem them - except in your pictures. Amazing. I am thinking about writing a hub on idioms with nature as the theme. Thinking there will be at least one tornado in there.

Ruby after 7 years in Leesburg you know the routine here! It gets a bit dicey at times, for sure. News said a funnel cloud passed over Satellite Beach which is where I grew up...about 25 miles from here...Hope there wasnt too much damage... Hugs and Thanks!

Great Hub! Your visuals are always right on target, which lend such amazing pictures in the readers mind. Mother Nature always gets her "Way"...just missed a hurricane in early 2007 after leaving central Florida and we've had a few small tornadoes come through Jersey. I expect to see hail storms here by mid May. Glad all turned out well for you.

I'm so glad I stopped by this way. Excellent topic and it flows just like nature...beautiful. I especially loved the life you gave to the trees in "Big old trees were waving, as if to say goodbye". Perfect, endearing personality blown into those trees. Enjoyed this piece tremendously. As awesome as the storm that inspired it!
