What Could Have Been

Updated on April 5, 2011

The What If Game

Come with me and play a game

I'm sure you've played before

The rules are simple

1) Pick an event from your past

Anything will do

2) Then ask yourself, 'What if?'

What if I

What if you

What if they

3) Now you simply sit back, relax and wallow in your sorrow

Wondering what could have been

4) Torture yourself a little

Teas yourself with a different life

That you know you could have had

If only...

5) Snap back to reality

Wake up from your day dream

Of the life that could have been

'Why bother playing?'

You may ask

'What good could it do?'

Ha! What a question!

Why isn't it obvious

How this game could benefit you?

A chance to dwell on the past

A chance to pine for what you could have had

Some say it doesn't do to dwell

On what you cannot change

But why not?

Why accept your life

And all that is good within it

When you can imagine a different one?

So stop being so optomistic

Just for a little while

Take some time out

Sit yourself down

And ask yourself

'What if?'

Dwelling On The Past

People waste entire life times playing the what if game. Once you try it, it becomes an addiction. It can take hold of your life. You spend your time wondering what could have been and forgetting what is. It destroys families and ruins lives. Break the addiction. Stop focusing on what could have been and enjoy what is.
