What Is and What Once Was

Updated on January 1, 2013

Every rock is an avalanche
But now life is still
It wonders why it never moves
And if it ever will

Every reflection is a life
But now it’s not real
It wonders what happened
It can see but cannot feel

Every flash is the sun
But it’s not warm
It wonders about the dark
And why it had to transform

Every memory is a love affair
But it’s all in the past
It wonders where it went
And why it was so fast

Every word is a play
But it’s just an act
It wonders how it can be
When it runs from fact

Every tear is a flood
But it cannot fill every emotion
It wonders how far it can go
When losing you was deeper than the ocean

@Pearldiver - I don't know. I just feel time is moving very fast and everything seems to be over... many phases have passed.... thank you for commenting. Happy New Year to you.

I wonder if it seems longer, because we move our feet slower? I wonder if the significance of our words today, will understood in the future, even if we move our feet faster? tempus fugit... they say... but I'm sure the watch strap was invented not to hold time, but to allow men to never feel naked when they are (bar their watch)... Nice work this Mark... hope your New Year has moved at a favorable pace... take care.. PD

Hi Nellieanna - Thank you... it was just something that kind of came to mind earlier this evening... it is shocking how quickly the past gets away from us... decades.... I know I owe you a comment or two on some of my threads. I have been very sloppy with answering comments lately...

This is my favorite verse, Mark; - it says so much and says it so well:

Every memory is a love affair

But it’s all in the past

      It wonders where it went

And why it was so fast
