What Went Wrong?
As I walk in the front door he hastily hangs up the phone, his face flushed.
"Who was that?" I ask
"No one. Wrong number," he answers
I'm sure I heard him say something about Friday night.
I let it go.
The next day a call from our credit card company,
A suspicious-looking charge to a florist.
A florist near his job.
"It must be a fraudulent charge," he responds.
My minds is racing.
As he's in the shower his phone rings,
It's a restaurant in the city.
A romantic restaurant.
My heart aches.
What went wrong?
There's no way I can concentrate while at work the next day.
"Stay calm," I remind myself.
I'm going to talk to talk to him, I decide.
Find out what went wrong.
What is happening to us?
I step out of my office building that night.
There's a limousine at the curb.
He's standing by the open door, a bouquet of flowers in his hand.
Tears fill my eyes.
I suddenly realize...
I completely forgot about our anniversary.
