When Dreams are not Enough

Updated on July 3, 2012

Here we walk

amongst the waves

often not making

large enough ripples to matter

caught up in the up

or the down of the world around us

why is that?

have we no reason for control

no sense of destiny

do we care so little about ourselves

that it never occurred to grow?

to gain in mass

both in discipline and concentration

until the way we go

makes waves all our own

and happiness is ours for the taking

heaven knows there is more

so much more to life

there are specific paths

specific waves to be made

but until those matter

why not know that the other waves

move around and not over

to see those that go up

rise with them then from that hight

follow waves even higher

all things change

but awareness

be awake

see things as they are

decide what you wish

follow the lone currents

that lead to higher pools

only those that bestow the waves

seeking others to be satified

say that one cannot go against the flow

The Black Dragon would beg to differ

true it uproots all that was

yet if one checked

such things give fertility to the new

floods and back flow have a purpose too

it might frighten the status quo

but that's tough monkeys!

for the new growth

who must cut down some timber

to give light to the floor

and room for the new

stale dead would for the majority

but malignant growth can go too!

So what will you do

the choice is ever yours

I cannot live for you

nor any other who might so wish.

In this dream

where all men seem to snore

at the frequency of the loudest voices

call your own cadence

know that the sleepers around you

who thought you asleep

like they

will be disturbed by your noise

but when they find

they cannot drown you out

they will quiet

and change their dreams

ever so slightly

so your noise doesn't seem out of harmony

though you might find

yourself in better company

surrounded by those others

who awake like you

need not dreams to live

but reality made

from the fabric of their intents.
