When Summer Dies

Updated on March 1, 2011

The First Stages

When Summer dies and winter falls

it's snow beats white and cold
The heat of day will fade to calls
 a roar of ages old
the summer air will grow and waste
 it's memories will pass
the snow will come and with it haste
 while summer breaths it's last
as winter looms with struggles few
 it's vantage is it's hue
as summer leaves behind the dew
and winter makes skies dark blue

The Midway Point

As summer dies and drifts to loss

and winter drives the phase
summer nights are set to cost
as in sets winter's days
the summer loves are put away
and room is made for trust
as summer let's go of all it's days
and sets in winter's lust
with winter winds come winters wrath
and for summer but a shadow
as winters reaches icy grasps
and strangles sunny marrows
the summer sea begins to still
it's waves are frozen plain
and winter with it's colding chill
will steal away summers rain

The Final Call

As winter walks a stride so close
to summer's dying breath
and summer forced back into the host
who questions of hisself
and winter freezes that we see
and summer has lost the shimmer
winter winds will make cold the heart
and our lights grow dimmer
the summer face has smiled no more
and left it's glee before us
the winter mass has opened doors
that will never close before us
The winter will be cold for long
and the summer will be defeated
but summer will come to song
and all of us will sing it
